Ventilated façade, natural temperature regulation

The main attraction of this house, located in a pretty village in northern Spain, is its commitment to modernity: making use of cubic forms combining black and wood tones, architect Ricard Fina Calatrava has played with the layout of a single horizontal plane that contrasts with the rural environment surrounding the house.

The architect wanted to avoid the clichés of the traditional “rustic” house and went for a contemporary, highly functional and efficient design. To this end, he opted for a ventilated façade capable of optimising the interior temperature of the house and, at the same time, standing the test of time.

The chosen material was Dekton Sirius in 8 mm thick slabs. It is a finish with a textured visual sensation and greenish touches that brings realism and strength to the project. It is available with mesh and in 320 x 140 cm slabs, making it ideal for large surfaces such as façades and interior claddings.

San Gregori - Cosentino StGregori 05 71

Dekton facilitates the construction of light and resistant façades

Ventilated façades are emerging as one of the best choices in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency. The façade of the house in Sant Gregori was mounted on an aluminium frame. The Cosentino team provided Ricard with advice throughout the process, resolving technical and logistical issues.

Concern for energy efficiency extends to the use of solar panels and other sustainable and environmentally friendly systems. As a Carbon Neutral material, Dekton adds an extra touch of sustainability to any architectural project, while ensuring a long lasting lifetime, as its colour will not fade with prolonged exposure to the sun and it will not scratch or crack. It is a perfect solution for a functional yet beautiful house.

Dekton, design with ethical commitment

Designed for multifunctional living, whether cooking for the family, entertaining friends or simply catching up over coffee, this kitchen from My Fathers Heart features stunning Dekton worksurfaces on both the central island and the surrounding cabinetry within this large, open-plan space.

Created by Sheffield-based kitchen designers My Fathers Heart, the room combines stunning SieMatic S2 handleless cabinets in the Umbra velvet-matt finish with Dekton in Kira, an earthy toned ultra-compact surface that has the look and feel of natural brownstones. Highly resistant to UV rays, scratches, stains and thermal shock, Dekton is the ideal choice for homeowners looking for a durable, hardwearing worksurface solution and it can also be used for flooring and wall cladding both indoors and out. What’s more, carbon neutrality has been achieved for the entire life cycle of Dekton, so homeowners can rest assured that their surface of choice is sustainable and helps build a better future.

Within the central island, Dekton blends effortlessly with rich walnut, which creates visual contrast and provides a warm tone for the breakfast bar area with its high stools for snacks and coffee. The BORA Professional extractor hob in an all-black steel finish sits neatly within the surface while antique brass pendant lights from Italy drop stylishly from above. The slim profile of the worksurface beautifully enhances the elegance of the appliances and kitchen furniture, while the colour palette is warm and inviting, creating a relaxed, contemporary look.

A material designed for everyday use

Chrissi Batey, Senior Kitchen Designer for My Fathers Heart, explains the process behind the design, “We spent a long time with the customer and their interior designer choosing a door finish from the SieMatic palette that would perfectly balance the wider scheme of the room and settled on Umbra. Dekton was the natural choice for worktops due its superior hardwearing qualities and Kira, with its warm earthy tones and elegant fine veining, was chosen to seamlessly complement the doors whilst adding subtle drama to this impressive open plan space.”

Added features such as the black Quooker tap, which provides boiling, sparkling and chilled water on demand, an antique mirrored splashback and bespoke metal framed shelving provide the perfect balance between practicality and beautiful aesthetic.

Blanc Concrete to blend the house into its surroundings

The RS Arquitectura studio is the mastermind behind this impressive single family home located in Sant Julià de Vilatorta, in the province of Barcelona (Spain). The creators of this project, which was successfully completed in August 2020, explain the creative concept and the challenges they faced.

The house is located in a prestigious area of natural beauty that RS Arquitectura wanted to highlight from the beginning of the project. For this purpose, the studio planned an L-shaped volume with pure and simple lines, which opens onto the garden and views, maintaining the necessary privacy and intimacy. The house has three levels, perfectly connected with each other, creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior spaces.

The façade features three different claddings: Dekton is used as the main cladding, bringing elegance and subtlety to the space; then there is aluminium on the lower parts of the façade; finally, glass makes it possible to achieve this connection between the interior and exterior.

The finish chosen was Dekton Blanc Concrete. It is a material from the Tech Collection, reminiscent of concrete, which features small grey and beige veins on a white background. Its availability in large format slabs of 320 cm make it a perfect choice for a façade.

TR House - Cosentino TR HOUSE 16 165

A non-porous material to withstand humid climates

Dekton was used as the main cladding of the house. It was installed using a cladding system with mechanical fasteners and adhesive cement. In addition to its unquestionable beauty, when it came to choosing this finish, the peace of mind of working with a material of great quality and purity and with the backing of a highly professional company was paramount.

Cosentino provided RS Arquitectura with technical advice throughout the entire construction process on a number of aspects such as the cutting and how to make the most of each slab without compromising on design. Cosentino also collaborated in the design of the façade, the training of the personnel in charge of installing it and the monitoring of the entire project to ensure that there were no problems.

In terms of product features, in addition to the extraordinary size of the slabs, RS Arquitectura highly appreciated Dekton’s zero porosity. In humid climates with large temperature contrasts, such as Sant Julià de Vilatorta, a non-porous material is the best guarantee that it will age well.

“We considered the possibility of using natural stone, specifically travertine, but we ruled it out because of its high price and porosity compared to Dekton, which also allowed us to work with larger pieces”

A very personal restoration

For radio presenter Maddy Barber, the mere mention of Serangoon Gardens used to bring back fond childhood memories. Now, she’s calling it home once again. Home now is also the very same house she grew up in.

To add another twist to the story, Barber teamed up with her acclaimed industrial and interior designer brother, Gabriel Tan, for the restoration project of their childhood home.

Serangoon Gardens estate was built in the 1950s by British developer, Steven Charles Macey, to house the British soldiers and airmen of the Royal Air Force (RAF) stationed in Singapore. Fondly nicknamed ang sar lee for the red zinc roofs that were widely used on the houses, Serangoon Gardens is one of the oldest private residential estates on the island with few high-rise buildings. Yet, it still retains its old-world charm amidst the rapid urbanisation surrounding the district.

An art gallery with Dekton as a protagonist

For the project, Tan draws inspiration from the low-rise desert modern architecture and interiors he experienced in Palm Springs, California, which reminded him of the 1960s architecture that the family home was originally built in. The use of mint and terracotta red tones around the house is borne out of the style.

High-performance, high heat, scratch and stain resistant, easy to maintain, and above all, it should look and feel luxurious. These were the requirements in choosing surface materials for the restoration project, and Dekton meets them all.

The highly visually-inclined pair chose three colours from The Collection by Cosentino – Dekton Liquid Shell, Dekton Liquid Sky and Dekton Laurent.

“Dekton offers a wide variety of visual aspects; be it minimalistic, simple, marble or granite effect, Dekton has it all,” says Tan, creative director of Gabriel Tan Studio and Studio Antimatter.

Chromatic harmony for the senses

Overlooking the courtyard, the master bath is an ethereal and holistic sanctuary conceived to calm the mind, dressed in Dekton Liquid Sky. Liquid Sky’s swirling, marbled, cloud-like pattern takes one away into another world.

In the master bedroom, the fluidity of Dekton Liquid Sky pairs beautifully with the terracotta blush coloured wall. The vanity top also features Liquid Sky for perfect harmony.

Dekton Liquid Shell is chosen for its subtlety and softness which complement the mint, terracotta red tones and the terrazzo flooring in the spacious kitchen, which Barber calls the heart of her home.

“For the entire kitchen, I eventually went with the cream coloured, textured Liquid Shell… which I cannot stop looking at and touching because it is so incredibly beautiful,” quips Barber on her choice of colour for the kitchen island, countertop and backsplash.

Signature interior design

In June 2020, Gustavo Marasca, a young and promising Brazilian architect, designed this beautiful private home in Rio Claro, São Paulo, Brazil. In only six months he successfully completed the construction and interior design with a stunning result. The most striking feature of this project is that, in addition to the perfect execution of the building in terms of façade and exterior volume, the architect has worked on a very careful interior design, with a selection of materials and qualities.

And in this selection of finishes, hyper-modern materials such as Dekton Trilium and Silestone Noka are combined with other more classic and timeless ones such as Dekton Natura, Dekton Rio Blanco and Silestone White Zeus.

The kitchen is a spectacular space with its large-format Dekton Natura worktop with rounded edges, which can seat eight people and can be used for showcooking. The material chosen is reminiscent of Carrara marble, but without the disadvantages of marble, which is not suitable for use in wet areas.

The ideal material for every space

The bathrooms are designed to the millimetre, combining countertops with lacquered wooden doors, designer handles and wallpaper. For the master bathroom, a countertop in Silestone Noka (dark brown colour) has been chosen, which creates a contrast with the white lacquered vanities. For the other bathrooms, the architect has opted for Silestone White Zeus with grey or light green lacquered wooden furniture and brushed brass handles.

Another striking feature is the impressive staircase in Dekton Rio Blanco suspended in the living room with its light glass balustrade. Technical attributes such as resistance to sunlight and scratches as well as its undeniably attractive appearance played an important role in the choice of this material. Six 1.2cm thick slabs, measuring 320 x 144 cm, have been used for the staircase to ensure that it will stand the test of time.

An impressive Dekton Trilium façade

The refinement and sensitivity of the interior of the home contrasts with a very architectural Dekton Trilium façade. The Trilium finish is reminiscent of rust. It is a mix of volcanic, grey and black colours and the first 100% recycled Dekton material. Marasca decided to use this material in ‘Slim’ format to create a flawless corten steel effect. Furthermore, this format makes installation easier due to its lighter weight and transforms the façade into something light and modern.

The result is a contemporary and functional home, designed with attention to detail inside and out, with Marasca’s distinctive style. Not surprisingly, this young and promising architect says he wants to transform the lives of his clients through their homes and defends the idea that true beauty is in the details.

‘I chose Dekton Trilium for the façade because of its unique design and the size of the slabs which allows them to be cut into different shapes’

An impressive façade made of five materials

This spectacular home in the heart of Cork was completed in 2020 The designer, Michael O’Brien, wanted to do something different on the façade and Dekton immediately came to mind. Michael had discovered Dekton in the showroom of Hickey Granite. When he first saw it, he was impressed with the size of the slabs and the material’s resistance to external factors such as ultra-violet rays, freezing and scratching.

Dekton Kira was fitted on the front façade of the home and on the side walls, which are highly exposed to unfavourable weather conditions. It was also used to frame the windows of the barbecue area (ground floor) in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

The uniqueness of the Ballycotton house lies in the five elements of its façade: Dekton, natural stone, plaster, zinc and wood. The combination of textures works perfectly in both visual and functional terms. The materials used are low maintenance and ideal for a house situated on a cliff top and exposed to Irish weather conditions.

Dekton Kira: the perfect combination with stone

Once Dekton had been selected, the next step was to choose the most suitable colour from an infinite number of options. Michael opted for the Kira colour because it best matched the stone. To do this, he ordered several samples from Cosentino and fitted them, along with the other materials, in the right place and exposed to the light they were to receive. He fell in love with Kira’s small grey veining and texture.

As for the cutting of Dekton Kira, although the original idea was to use it in a large seamless format, in the end O’Brien preferred to cut it into long pieces of different widths. By doing so, the façade achieves a visual effect of greater height.

In this home, twelve 12mm thick slabs were used to clad an area of 100m2. The slabs were ‘glued’ directly onto an existing façade, which precluded the use of other more efficient systems, such as a ventilated façade, but significantly reduced the cost.

The use of five materials, the irregular cutting and its installation with adhesive are the special features of this unusual façade. Without a doubt, the façade is the best introduction to this impressive home perched on the cliffs of Cork.
