Character and exoticism

Quipu restaurant offers the raw, unfiltered beauty of nature as a visual, aesthetic and gastronomic experience. And it does so by evoking the most authentic Peru: furniture made from natural elements and earth colours that recreate a traditional Peruvian home and invite you to taste the best of creative Andean cuisine.

The interior design of the establishment has been the work of Javiescobar Interiorismo, an interior design studio that has taken advantage of natural elements such as wood, natural stone and rattan to create a unique atmosphere. Dekton has also contributed to this atmosphere with its Liquid Embers colour, which has been used for the bar top.

“We chose Liquid Embers for its dark colour with blue tones and, at the same time, because it embodies elegance and freshness. The charcoal colour of the material reminds me a lot of fire and coal, and in this project we wanted to focus on nature and natural elements”, explains the studio.

“Dekton is a really user-friendly material for cooking”

Dekton, comfort for every situation

Having met the design criteria, the studio sought durable and robust materials that wouldn’t get damaged by daily use and challenges of a restaurant. “No other material provides the hardness and rigidity that Dekton offers. It provides amazing versatility for such a demanding live cooking bar top: you can use it to place a hot wok or as a chopping board … it’s a really user-friendly material for cooking, especially in a Peruvian kitchen that requires a lot of fire and heat for cooking. ”

The ultra-compact Dekton surface is especially recommended for applications involving temperature contrasts as well as for use as a work surface suitable for all types of businesses, as its physical-mechanical properties make it highly resistant to scratching, easy to clean as it is a non-porous material, and it is even fire-resistant.

A comprehensive refurbishment designed to last

This architectural project involved the remodelling and extension of an existing building in order to house the headquarters of our client, Grupo Delgado. EAU Arquitectura studio designed a comprehensive refurbishment of the building, which extends from the basement, intended to provide parking spaces, to the top floor, for both staff and executive offices.

The aim of the refurbishment was to create open and light spaces oriented towards functionality but also with a marked aesthetic character. Cosentino materials, Dekton and Silestone, were key to achieving this combination both indoors, highlighting the furniture and flooring, and outdoors, featuring a ventilated façade designed to withstand the temperature changes and exposure to sunlight typical of central Spain.

“Thanks to their size, lightweight and durability, Cosentino materials have allowed us to go one step further”.

Dekton, lightweight and resistant surfaces

During the refurbishment of the building, the original façade was completely demolished in order to plan a new one that would meet two needs: design and durability. “We wanted a contemporary, refined and simple design, without embellishments, that would provide sobriety to the building”, explains the architecture studio, which is why Dekton in colours Warm White and Domoos was chosen for this project.

For the construction of the ventilated façade, the studio used large format Dekton panels, which allow such cladding thanks to its lightness compared to other materials – Dekton is available in thicknesses up to 4 mm-. “We managed to reduce the weight of the façade compared to other materials such as precast concrete or stone, which would have required the use of a more complex substructure as well as waterproofing the material from time to time in order to prevent discolouration, dirt, water absorption…”

Dekton’s physicochemical properties, such as its resistance to UV rays, its low porosity and resistance to frost and thawing, make it possible to obtain a material that remains practically unaltered outdoors without the need for long-term maintenance.

Scratch-proof design furniture

The star of the ground floor is the lobby, designed to allow natural light to flood the space and facilitate the flow of both staff and visitors. Large format Dekton slabs in Warm White, Domoos and Blanc Concrete were used for the flooring, thus reducing the number of joints, enhancing visual continuity and facilitating maintenance. “For us it was very attractive because of its scratch resistance and anti-slip properties”.

The bespoke reception in Dekton Entzo is the focal point of the lobby. Its interesting veining provides elegance and is reminiscent of the Calacatta marbles, but with a beautiful golden shade.

A whole collection of furniture, including tables and counters in Aura 15 and Domoos, was also designed. The use of Cosentino materials is extended to the washbasins, featuring the model Silence in Silestone Iconic White.

The unique soul of historical buildings

Sophistication on all levels, that’s what defines chef Wouter van Laarhoven and his partner Malou Hagenaars. In 2019 they realized their dream and opened restaurant/bodega ‘Alma’ in Oisterwijk (The Netherlands). In this they found the perfect location with an unmistakable charm and history. The building called ‘De Lind’ is known in Oisterwijk as ‘De Swaen’ (the Swan) since 1631. Top chef Cas Spijkers used to cook the most beautiful dishes here.

On the top floor of the building a fine dining restaurant was created which can seat 48 people. It includes a balcony with a beautiful view over De Lind, perfect for outdoor dinners in the Summer. In restaurant ‘Alma’ everything comes together and the cuisine brings true meaning to the frase ‘soulfood’. Alma means soul in Spanish, a refferal to the high level experience the couple offers their guests.

Advising from start to finish

The interior design of Alma has a strong Spanish influence. Chef Van Laarhoven fell in love with Dekton by Cosentino, strong slabs in a natural stone look and feel. Architect Jeff van Riel of Zout Ontwerphuis made a design for the restaurant.

Van Laarhoven visited the Cosentino facilities in Spain during the design process. “What struck me most in Spain is the size of the slabs. I got a good picture of the veining in the matieral. It was wonderful to be able to visit the factory and see all the colors in large size. That eventually led to the choice of a different colour than we initially planned.”

Design that stands up to professional demands

The choice for Dekton was made thanks to the elegant yet robuste look and durability of the material – Dekton is resistant to stains, scratches and extreme temperatures. The material has been incorporated in the bar, the tabletops, in cupboards and in the kitchen where the material even is being used as induction hob to cook on. This is a unique application for a professional kitchen. Because Dekton is heat resistant, induction coils can be placed underneath the worktop.

The induction process does not transmit heat to Dekton, only the used pan transmits heat temporally to the surface. Through a special operating system the temperature can be raised. This makes this application not only beautiful, but it also brings practical advantages like a large kitchen countertop without interruptions. The surface is very easy to clean, simply use a damp cloth and the stain and heat are gone.

Now nothing stands in van Laarhoven’s way of cooking the most beautiful dishes, assisted by his wife who is also a cheese master.

Dekton aesthetics to enhance flavours

The city of Bologna boasts an incredibly long history and is renowned for its architecture which, especially in recent years, has placed it among the top tourist destinations, both nationally and internationally. Its undisputed beauty is also combined with a truly unique gastronomic culture and, at the beginning of 2020, a new element was added to this rich culinary landscape: the Seta Meat Lab.

An elegant, sophisticated atmosphere makes the Seta Meat Lab stand out and permeates every aspect of the establishment, from the refined dishes to the interior design of the various spaces. The distinctive style of the décor combines radically different elements that find harmony expressed through casual combinations.

This ambitious project included the participation of Gruppo Cosentino, which completed Martelli Marmi tables by providing 55 square metres of 20 mm thick Dekton tabletops in a dark, matt Sirius finish.

Avant-garde design that stands up to diners

Dekton is created from a sophisticated blend of raw materials such as glass, state-of-the-art porcelain and quartz. As a result, the team responsible for renovating the former Gesto space were able to meet all demands, having found a material that offers great aesthetic appeal alongside being extremely resistant to stains, scratches and, most importantly, high temperatures.

This last aspect is crucial, since one of the highlights of the culinary experience offered by the Seta Meat Lab is that meat is served directly at the table on a hot plate. This is made possible thanks to the extraordinary technical properties of Dekton, which enable this to be done without running the risk of damaging the surface.

Lastly, the textured, jet black shade of Sirius adds a touch of realism, elegance and strength to the atmosphere of the restaurant, which, just a few months after its launch, has already become a landmark destination for meat lovers.

The perfect symbiosis between kitchens

The Ti Trin Ned restaurant has become a reference in Danish gastronomy since 2001. Located in the old quarter of Fredericia, on the shores of the Baltic Sea, this restaurant takes its culinary offerings to an almost intimate level where diners and chefs share spaces. The experience had to flow, according to the concept of manager Mette Hvarre Gassner and chef Rainer Gassner, who have created a perfect symbiosis between a restaurant turned into an open kitchen and a ‘production’ kitchen. The result – one Michelin star.

To do this, it was necessary to merge two spaces with different characteristics and needs: on the one hand, priority was given to the aesthetic beauty of the surfaces, which had to complement the flavours of the menu; and on the other hand, it was essential to have a material that could be resistant to the thermal shocks, scratches and stains inherent in a busy kitchen. Dekton uniquely combines functionality and design, two features that make it truly attractive for professional kitchens all over the world.

“The resistance of Dekton represents exactly the attributes we are looking for, without compromising on aesthetics and design”
Rainer Gassner

Rainer Gassner

Owner & Chef

Domoos and Kreta for two working environments

During the development of the project it was important that the two spaces, i.e. the open kitchen and the ‘production’ kitchen, were interconnected yet physically separate. The solution was to use a combination of two textures: the dark, almost black texture of Dekton Domoos for the worktops and the wall cladding in the open kitchen, and the soft grey of Dekton Kreta, from the award-winning Industrial Collection by Cosentino, used in the ‘production’ kitchen.

It is in the latter where Dekton’s unique properties stand out. Its large format of 2700X1400 mm, which runs from floor to ceiling, provides a sense of continuity that also makes cleaning easier by reducing joints. Ti Trin Ned’s kitchen is one of the easiest to maintain in Denmark.

Eco-friendly aesthetics

Ti Trin Ned offers a type of cuisine that is deeply rooted in its natural environment, with ingredients firmly established in tradition and respect for nature. For Mette and Rainer Gassner to find a material that is as beautiful as it is sustainable was a matter of pure coherence. Dekton, as a carbon neutral product, meets this requirement perfectly.

“We are impressed by the features of Dekton and, at the same time, the concern for the environment and recycling that motivates Cosentino’s R&D. This is in line with our philosophy of respecting natural resources”.

The new Hilton Garden Inn attracts visitors to Wiener Neustadt (Vienna New Town)

The Hilton Garden Inn is the first of these internationally renowned hotel chains to arrive in Lower Austria. With its central, yet idyllic position, the 4-star hotel is located in the park close to the city walls which date back to the time Wiener Neustadt was founded in the 12th century. The stone look of the “Kasematten” (former city fortification casements) are reflected in its interior design with Silestone quartz surfaces from Cosentino.

The new Hilton Garden Inn was completed in early 2019 in time for the opening of the Kasematten at the “World in Motion” state exhibition that was held the same year. In addition to the five-storey accommodation wing with 133 guest rooms, some of which are handicapped accessible, the hotel includes a fitness room, a bar and restaurant that are open to the public and a conference area with seminar rooms. The rooms facing south have a view of the park and those facing north have a view of the Aldstadt (Old Town) with the Capuchin Church and the cathedral.

Extremely elegant in both look and feel

“The architecture of the building is modern and open and, with its Garden Lounge and extensive use of glass, brings the adjacent city park and historic city walls into the atmospheric mix”, explains Peter Salem from Kaltenbacher Architektur. “The materials and colours of the surroundings are reflected in the interior spaces. Light, stone tones create a harmonious base radiating a calm that is softened by pastel accents. We used Silestone from Cosentino to achieve consistently sleek furniture surfaces in the silky matt grey shades of Kensho Suede that both look and feel extremely elegant.”

At the Hilton Garden Inn, Silestone was used as the durable and easy-care surface in the lobby, at the bar and for the tables in the reception area. Even the buffet and washstands in the bathrooms were designed using Silestone.

Ideal for large, seamless surfaces

“Silestone is extremely versatile if you know how to expertly work this hard material”, says Werner Brottrager, from Kamper Handwerk+Bau, who was responsible for the interior work in all the public areas on the ground floor. “The quartz panel can be finished using various edge types or bevel patterns to create complex profiles. It can also be precisely machined or drilled to form cutouts. However, Silestone is ideally suited for creating large seamless surfaces, like the beautiful 6-metre reception desk that greets guests at the Hilton in the Steinfeld”.

Silestone heightens the beauty of one of Perugia’s oldest bars

In recent decades, the city of Perugia has grown sufficiently to provide a dynamic and cosmopolitan setting for visitors and residents alike while preserving its small-town charm, nestled in the landscape of Umbria, one of Italy’s loveliest regions. The city’s businesses, as a result, have a very real commitment to upholding its aesthetics and history.

The owners of Caffè Morlacchi, one of Perugia’s oldest bars and strategically located on the square of the same name, were clear that any refurbishment of the premises must preserve the welcoming and elegant atmosphere. Their challenge was to find a material that would withstand the heavy footfall of a popular bar while also complementing the the brick-vaulted ceilings. To accompany this iconic feature of Caffè Morlacchi, along with Liberty Lamps, designer chairs and custom lighting, there could only be one candidate: Silestone.

Eternal Marquina, or the beauty of contrasts

The solemnity and elegance of Silestone Eternal Marquina completes Caffè Morlacchi’s unique atmosphere: seven panels of this colour cover the surface and external sides of the counter, recalling the finest of marbles. The intensity of the black base and the lively white veining are enriched by a Suede n-Boost finish specifically designed resist any type of stain.

Once again, Caffè Morlacchi is ready to welcome current and future residents and tourists for an afternoon or evening of lively conversation, with an espresso or good “birra”, in hand.

138m2 of Dekton and Silestone creating the feeling of freedom

There are restaurants designed with such attention to detail that diners find the interior as delightful as the food. In the grounds of São Paulo’s Museum of Image and Sound, Pipo serves a bold fusion menu for all five senses within an open-plan, airy space where food and nature are the stars. Dekton and Silestone surfaces form the basis for this delicious pairing.

Architects Renata Castilho and Camila Buciani, from RCB Arquitectura, wanted to create a relaxed, light-filled setting without architectural restrictions of any kind. The main kitchen opens onto the dining room, providing a live and direct view of the attention to detail that chefs put into every dish.

Dekton Orix; the colour of creation

{Dekton Orix, from the Industrial collection, lends elegant and surprising tones to this creative workspace: the mixture of blues, greens and blacks gives a distressed concrete look to the worksurfaces and grill, a particularly sensitive area due to the high temperatures. With its high resistance to heat, Dekton perfectly fulfils aesthetic requirements as well as technical ones.}}

Orix has also been used on one of the restaurant’s walls, providing the sense of unity that the project’s architects were looking for.

See the light with Dekton Nilium

A calm, luminous space, decorated with simplicity yet pleasing to the eye. This was the overarching concept driven by Renata Castilho and Camila Buciani. With wood and ornamental plants playing a key role, the design needed a surface that would complement these elements and reflect the joyful dazzle of Brazilian life. Dekton Nilium, also from the Industrial collection, was a particularly attractive option.

Reminiscent of the fine, sparkling sand of Brazil’s beaches, Nilium has been used to create harmony between the key surfaces, such as tables, countertops and the walls of the bar and wine cellar. The harmonious result elegantly contrasts with the materials chosen for the kitchen. The feeling of freedom is enhanced by Nilium, a colour full of nuances like the golden and grey flecks that enrich its tone.

Finally, the Blanco Capri shade, in Silestone this time, was chosen to continue the light and airy feel of the restaurant all the way to the bathrooms, which gleam thanks to this pristine tone.

The material chosen by the professionalss

The ultra-compact surface Dekton has once again proven to be the surface brand of choice for professional chefs due to its superior technical properties and stylish designs, with its specification throughout the Vanderlyle restaurant, Cambridge. Led by chefs, Alex Rushmer, a former Masterchef finalist, and Lawrence Butler, Vanderlyle prides itself on working closely with local suppliers, serving up a truly seasonal menu that celebrates simple, unfussy food. Open four days a week, the restaurant also offers select diners a unique chef’s table experience. Additionally, up to four guests are able to be seated at the Dekton pass with views directly into the kitchen, watching their dinners be prepared and served in an intimate setting.

During the process of renovating the establishment prior to opening, Alex and Lawrence discovered a multitude of paint layers on the walls, created collaboratively by generations of previous occupants. This inspired the interior design of the restaurant, which juxtaposes the raw, stripped back walls with modern painted joinery and brass elements for a minimal, industrial edge which reflects the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant.

A robust surface full of design possibilities

The restaurant’s surfaces are a stand-out feature of the restaurant’s open design. Fabricated and installed by Cambridge-based Eadonstone, three different Dekton designs were chosen for the space, helping to visually zone the restaurant.

Firstly, greeting guests as they enter the restaurant, Dekton Arga from the Stonika collection has been used for the bar area in a chunky 30mm thickness. Inspired by premium natural stone, Arga has creamy undertones which adds a touch of luxury, reflecting the bottles and mirrored backsplash. 12mm Dekton Kira, with its grey base tone and delicate white veining, was selected for the impressive restaurant pass. This doubles up as an intimate ‘chef’s table’ dining area thanks to a deep overhang, made possible thanks to Dekton’s high flexural strength.

An industrial touch for the kitchen

Industrial-look Dekton Nilium, also in 12mm thickness, was the perfect choice for the restaurant’s open kitchen. Permanently on display to diners, the kitchen consists of a length L shaped worktop and a generously proportioned central island, which also houses the kitchen’s hobs and ovens.

Thanks to Dekton’s high resistance to heat, Vanderlyle’s chefs can place hot pans or dishes straight down on to the Dekton kitchen countertops and open pass, without fear of damaging the surface. Other benefits that set Dekton apart as the ideal surface for use in professional catering environments include a high resistance to scratches and stains, making for easy cleaning to ensure a hygienic space.
