A hotel from which to explore America’s capital

The Marriott hotel chain offers hundreds of places to stay all over the world, providing travellers with all the comforts of home within a prestigious, well-located property. With this philosophy in mind, the team behind the W Washington Hotel in the U.S. capital decided to fully renovate all the bathrooms of the hotel’s rooms and suites. Their aim was to create an elegant atmosphere and a cosy, inviting experience. The stunning furnishings, coupled with the use of Dekton and Silestone have made this possible.

Reminiscent of classic Calacatta

Dekton Aura has been used on the floor and walls of the bathrooms, a tone that creates nostalgia for the marbles of Calacatta and Carrara. Its bold veining against the white background turns any space into a place to find tranquillity.

For the water closets, Iconic Black was chosen – a definitive Silestone shade with endless possibilities. What’s more, N-Boost technologyadds a shine that radiates cleanliness.

Sustainable comfort

In December 2019, the world known hotel chain HILTON opened a new property in Poland, the first “Hilton Resort” hotel in the country. It is also the first Hilton chain facility in Poland built in accordance with LEED ecological certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The property offers its guests a unique hospitality experience with direct neighborhood of wide natural beach and magnificent views of the Baltic Sea. Guests can choose from 173 luxury rooms and suites, each with a private balcony. At their disposal, they have a wide selection of services, including variety of restaurants, bars, SPA as well as access to recreational facilities – Baltic Park Molo Aquapark.

Eternal Calacatta Gold for a luxury interior design

“The design is closely related with the hotel’s environmental context. The look of the building and its interiors is clearly inspired by the sea – the spaces are dominated by rounded, wavy shapes and natural colors of earth and marine flora. These consistent yet intriguing forms, colors and textures used across the entire property create a feeling of comfort and allow for a multidimensional perception of spaces.” – mentions Łukasz Pisarek, Chief Architect of Zdrojowa Invest.

Decorated with highest attention to details, Hilton Resort & SPA represents a perfect place for those who enjoy a moment of relaxation while surrounded by art and world class design. In order to ensure a feeling of luxury and highest quality, multiple surfaces in the hotel have been embellished by Silestone by Cosentino quartz conglomerate in one of its most elegant patterns – Eternal Calacatta Gold. Almost 700 m2 have been covered with this material, which, used in a wide variety of applications and combined with graceful textures and warm tones of wood, created a blend of ultra-stylish interiors across the entire building.

Surfaces that strike with subtle details

What cannot remain unnoticed is an extraordinary fabrication method of the Silestone surface. Following the main design idea, majority of the structures in Hilton are of curved, wave-like form. These organic shapes have been enfolded by the gold-veined quartz conglomerate, creating an astonishing effect that plays with light and volume.

“Eternal Calacatta Gold is a beautiful and impressive texture. Silestone’s quality could be seen, for example, in the rounded elements that had to be fabricated with highest precision and attention to details. Its production is very similar to work with natural stone – it allows you to freely finish the edges whilst keeping the original design of the material.” – says Dariusz Drzewiecki, Project Managerf of Cloon, fabrication company responsible for preparation of stone surfaces for the hotel

Ideal colors for every situation

Silestone with white background and delicate greyish veins played an important role in defining the atmosphere of the interiors. It was selected for multiple applications, from bathroom countertops in rooms and toilets, surfaces covering bars, buffets, and reception desk, to exclusive finishes of coffee tables or vertical panels. Thanks to use of this white and elegant material, even the most monumental structures present in the public spaces of the property are perceived as illuminated and subtle.

Beauty and resistance

Not without a reason Silestone was the material of choice for the work surfaces in the hotel.

„Project had to fulfill the highest aesthetic requirements and, at the same time, ensure the best durability of implemented solutions and products. In order to achieve that, all material proposals were verified by contractors after the design stage. As a result of this process, some finishes originally designed in natural stone were replaced by Silestone, particularly due to its properties and resistance to external factors.” – Łukasz Pisarek adds.

Hotel buffets, bathroom tops or furniture in a wellness studio are subject to extremely intensive use. These structures demand highly durable material, resistant to external factors like food, liquids, or chemical substances that can easily damage more sensitive surface. With Silestone, the Hilton’s interiors will certainly maintain their beauty for years.

It has taken the Spanish Court Hotel just 10 years to establish itself as one of the most outstanding properties in the Caribbean, becoming one the top three accommodation options chosen by the public according to specialist travel websites. Among the qualities that make this hotel unique is the characteristic style of its décor, which combines natural elements from the Caribbean surroundings with cutting-edge, modern materials. This is the style that Christopher Issa, owner of the Spanish Court, wanted to maintain and enhance when renovating the hotel in 2019.

“We wanted the hotel to complement the natural beauty of Jamaica,” explains Issa who, alongside his team, searched for the most suitable materials for the project. “The designer wanted a white floor and finding the right one was among our biggest challenges.” Cue Dekton by Cosentino and its wide variety of colours.

Dekton Zenith, the all-encompassing white

The renovation of the Spanish Court Hotel involved refurbishing the luxurious bedrooms and their spectacular bathrooms. The Antrobus + Ramirez studio opted to use 6,967 m2 of the Dekton Zenith colour for this task, as a way to let the light in Jamaica flood into every room. As the owner, Christopher Issa describes the result, “When you walk into the rooms refurbished with Dekton, they feel like a million-dollar suite.”

The Cosentino team, headed by Astor Paz, General Manager at Cosentino Center Fort Lauderdale, provided important guidance when it came to choosing the materials: “We were able to provide help and advice with regard to the installation of the materials. In fact, we spent several days training the team of installers.” The result of this close collaboration is the 1,858 m2 of Dekton used in the hallways, in the Danae shade with the Grip+ anti-slip finish.

Natural stone in the areas dedicated to relaxation and fun

Among the Spanish Court Hotel’s main attractions are the spa areas, where guests can relax and the large pool, designed for fun as well as comfort. In these areas, the designers have sought to maintain a sense of coherence with the surroundings by using Natural Stone, in the Caliza Alba shade for the pool and White Macael for the spa.

Support during the project execution phase

Christopher Issa highlighted how easy it was to work with Cosentino, which not only gave him the opportunity to understand the properties of the materials and to discover the wide range of colours, but also to visit the Cosentino production headquarters in Almería, Spain.

The support we received, both in the choice of the most appropriate materials as well as the training prior to the installation, was one of the factors that made this project such a success, both in terms of design and execution.

Complete renovation of 3,800 m2

This former Le Méridien hotel has been brought back to life through an ambitious renovation project carried out by the design studio, TMA Architects and Associates. They chose to use the most innovative materials on the market, including the ultracompact surface Dekton by Cosentino.

The new hotel, renamed MU Jiaoxi, is a luxury, 5-star establishment that offers one of the best experiences possible in the Taiwanese city of Yilan. The hotel’s new features, both on the inside and on the façade, help contribute to this luxury experience.

Aura and Kelya, the colours used in this renovation

The building’s new façade is where Dekton really makes a big impact, featuring the Aura (1,300 m2) and Kelya (2,500 m2) colours. The Dekton panels in 140 cm x 12 cm and 85 cm x 120 cm formats have been installed using the Fischer Anchor fixing system and in total cover an area of 3,800 m2.

Trans Globe, the company that owns the hotel, fell in love with the Dekton Aura aesthetic and how similar it is to Carrara marble. Dekton Kelya was chosen in order to provide a perfect contrast with Dekton Aura and with the rest of the façade’s design, to create an elegant overall aesthetic. Dekton’s natural characteristics, advanced technology, easy maintenance and sustainable features were key elements in the development of the project.

The colours, Aura and Kelya, combine perfectly in large-scale projects, featuring large panels

Modern surfaces to protect History

Hotel Jakarta, which is located on Java-eiland in Amsterdam, and which opened its doors in the summer of 2018, is a very special project. A hotel centered around a tropical courtyard garden and incorporating all modern conveniences arose on a historic location. Sustainability plays a key role in the design of the building, which is built in wood. The sustainable and high-quality brands Silestone and Dekton from Cosentino tie in with this concept perfectly.

For years, the municipality of Amsterdam was looking for the best way to meet the need for hotel space at the head of Java-eiland. WestCord Hotels called in the help of SeARCH architects, who had already been involved in the urban development plan for Java-eiland. Together they developed a hotel concept that is as sustainable as it is high-tech, and with which they won the tender.

The perfect textures of Silestone and Dekton for a natural ambient

Most of the materials that were used are pure: wood, steel and glass. In order to be able to meet the high sustainability requirements, the starting point was circularity. In other words, the recovery and reuse of materials. Also for the finishing touches, virtually no materials were used that have a short lifespan or are not recyclable. In Dekton and Silestone SeARCH found the ideal solution for the materials in the kitchen, restaurant and bakery of Hotel Jakarta.

In the kitchen, Dekton Kelya and Dekton Aura are applied as kitchen countertops. In the restaurant, the bar and all the bar tables are in Silestone Coral Clay and in the bakery, the bar is made of Dekton Tundra Xgloss. The extremely strong sheets with natural stone look not only fit perfectly into the natural character of the hotel, but are also extremely durable and resistant to stains, scratches, bumps and extreme (weather) conditions.

Centered around a courtyard garden

Java-eiland is now a residential area on a peninsula in the Eastern Docklands (Oostelijk Havengebied) in Amsterdam. This island once served as a breakwater in the IJ for the Eastern Trading Quay (Oostelijke Handelskade) behind it. Among others, the Dutch Steam Shipping Company (Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland), which provided scheduled services to the Dutch East Indies, settled in the port area that was created in the nineteenth century. It’s not for nothing that the southern quay of the island is called ‘Javakade’ and the northern quay is called ‘Sumatrakade’.

Many people left ‘to go east’ from this quay, sometimes never to return. This gives the place an incredible amount of historical significance, says SeARCH’s Kim Francois. “When the island was developed into a residential area in the 1990s, it was decided to give courtyards the names of cities on Java and to name the canals after Javanese rivers. The four canals divide the island into five smaller islands, each with its own courtyard garden. It was perfectly clear to us that a hotel at the head of the island had to fit within the same plan. The idea for Hotel Jakarta was born, and like the rest of the island, a courtyard is at the heart of the design.”

Sustainable and future-proof

A condition for the design of the hotel was that very high demands had to be met in terms of sustainability. The hotel also had to connect with the neighborhood, as well as be an important place for the residents. “We decided that the tropical covered indoor garden should literally be the heart of the concept. A garden that – unlike other gardens – is not only accessible to residents, but to everyone.” Usually, courtyard gardens are the final element of a design, more like the green feature of a building. “That’s not the case here, we actually started with the garden and constructed the building around it”, explains Francois.

“In Dekton and Silestone SeARCH found the ideal solution for the materials in the kitchen, restaurant and bakery of Hotel Jakarta”

Beating heart

The atrium with its subtropical courtyard garden, a collaboration with Hortus Botanicus, forms the beating heart of the hotel. It acts as a temperature regulator in both summer and winter. On all sides of the building, the rooms have their own sheltered outdoor space, which simultaneously acts as protection from the sun. The public ‘pasar’ with its various bars, restaurants and coffee corners, the wellness area and the space for cultural activities bring together hotel guests, islanders and other residents of Amsterdam.

The building’s high sustainability requirements extend to every detail. In this way, low tech and high tech always meet with the ambition to develop a concept that is as sustainable as possible. A good network and access to all possible multimedia facilities are essential for future-proofing the hotel, and therefore its long-term sustainability.

An area that uses more than 70,000 m2 of Dekton and 1,600 of Silestone

In 2017, the hotel chain HIPOTELS opened two new properties at Playa de Palma (Palma de Mallorca). Aimed at foreign tourists, the chain’s key goal is to offer quality properties in unbeatable locations, with personalized service and facilities that exceed the expectations of the market.

More than 72,700 m2 of Dekton by Cosentino and 1,600 m2 of Silestone by Cosentino were used in the construction of the two complexes.

Interior and exterior flooring, dry and wet areas

Dekton makes up a large proportion of the flooring of the two hotels, both indoors and out. The large format of the Dekton pieces (320 x 144 cm) has enabled the creation of beautiful, top-quality floors in the rooms, communal areas and outdoor pool area. Smaller-format Dekton pieces give shape to the floors of the showers in the en suite bathrooms, the stairways, and the 5* spa and heated pool. Its durability, resistance to abrasion and easy daily maintenance make this the perfect product for application on floors.

Having opted for uniformity of colour, we find Dekton flooring in various finishes throughout the project, in soft, pale and grey tones such as Danae, Blanc Concrete, Sirocco, Edora and Keon. The striking colour Trilium has been chosen for the heated pool area.

Ventilated facade that resists erosion and salt

The ventilated facade of this four-star hotel’s building is made from Dekton. The material’s properties are ideal for this application. When it comes to the proximity to the sea, Dekton offers optimal performance in the face of sand and salt erosion.

It also has exceptional characteristics such as colour stability and high resistance to ultraviolet rays and staining. More than 9,000 square metres of Dekton®, in the Edora colour, create an impressive architectural result from the building’s facade.

Reception, Desks and Bars: 1,000 m2 of Silestone

The communal areas of both hotels, comprising bars and dining rooms, are clad in Silestone. The impeccable Blanco Zeus colour is used on countertops and panelling to create an aesthetic of unbeatable beauty. The same tone has been chosen for the four-star hotel’s spectacular reception, as well as the various counters found in different locations around the two complexes.

Other Silestone colours with exquisitely dark finishes, such as Carbono and Negro Stellar, were also chosen to clad various surfaces in the interior of the two hotels.

Silestone is the perfect option for these particular applications thanks to some extraordinary characteristics, such as easy cleaning and daily maintenance, high resistance to impacts, and bespoke production.

More than 3,800 m2 of Dekton on a unique facade

Cap Ferrat is an iconic residential building located on exclusive Avenida Vieira Souto in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro. Built in 1976, this 20-story landmark of the Ipanema district has a surface area of 2,000 m2 and is home to apartments, duplexes, garages and communal areas.

Forty years after it was built, the cladding on the tower’s balconies was refurbished between 2013 and 2016. Having analysed the performance of various materials, the architectural studio in charge of the project, Di Filippo Arquitectura, identified Dekton as meeting all of the essential requirements.

The correct load for the facade, with a carefully planned exterior aesthetic

The biggest challenge faced by the project team was to find a new cladding that could be installed over the original material and would entail a maximum load of 90 kilograms per square metre. In addition, due to the building’s proximity to the sea, the chosen material needed to match the exterior aesthetic with a subtle tone that blended into the surroundings as well as having mechanical properties to withstand the environmental damage that is common to such locations.

Careful R&D work tailor-made for the project

The 12 mm-thick pieces were cut and the exact number, dimensions and location of their perforations made at the Cosentino factory in Cantoria, Almería, before being shipped to Brazil. The perforations made were the result of a ground-breaking fixing technique developed for this project by the company GMM Anchor Systems, supported throughout by the Cosentino engineering department.
