Old World textures

‘Our architect, Michael Cardinale, wanted to reinterpret the style of typical European villas in a contemporary manner and planned to use marble as the main feature. However, he quickly dismissed this idea. The owners of the Izvor House are a big family with a very active social life and needed a much stronger material’, Kylie Petrou, Project Manager at Axon Homes, explains.

They found the right product in Cosentino’s materials: an extremely compact quartzite with unique stain resistant protection and a classic pattern. Sensa White Macaubas also fitted perfectly with the other finishes they wanted to use, such as walnut veneer, terracotta accessories and Japanese tiles in olive green or Mediterranean blue.

A surface that withstands wear and tear

The owners of this home are keen cooks and love having family and friends over. Therefore, one of their main demands was that the work surfaces should have the best possible performance in terms of scratch and heat resistance. ‘They love to put hot pots, pans or baking trays directly on the worktop or on the table for serving’, Petrou explains. This challenge was met thanks to Dekton, with the Domoos colour for the work area and unit doors and the Uyuni colour for the dining room table. For the island, they chose Sensa White Macaubas quartzite.

In the outdoor cooking area, they also opted for Dekton because of its high resistance to the sun’s rays and temperature changes. In this case, Domoos was used both for the units and the worktop alongside Bromo for the table top.

The ‘Wow’ effect

‘Without a doubt, two of our favourite images involve the contrast created in the kitchen, with the dark Dekton background and the Sensa White Macaubas island, and the impressive interplay of shapes produced by this same cladding on the balustrades leading to the living room and on the sides of the five-metre-high fireplace’, Axon Homes explains.

This project consisted of a carefully selected set design, where the small details help to improve the visual appearance, giving a more orderly image. Every element counts and enhances the rest. This is the case of Dekton Domoos that frame the bathroom tiles and shape the washbasins, creating an overall clean and relaxed atmosphere with their refined design.

The same care can be seen in the design of the staircase, where Michael Cardinale combined Dekton Domoos treads with a Sensa White Macaubas riser for an elegant sense of lightness.

Dekton Domoos and Uyuni were also used in other features, such as the worktop of the TV sideboard, the office table and the furniture and surfaces in the laundry room, bringing strength and sobriety to these spaces.

A new brand image

Waynes is a well-known Swedish coffee chain that the last years are expanding heavily globally and locally. To be noticed in an already saturated market it was important to revise its old identity and to communicate its Swedish roots and strengthen its brand identity. The new concept aims to create a home for the Scandinavian” Fika” culture and to express the joy of the tradition of slowing down over a coffee and a cake.

The company entered 2020 with a brand-new look that makes the Swedish origin clearer and distinguishes themselves from the competitors. The renewal includes the interior design as well as the graphic identity. The dark murky colours are replaced by lighter Scandinavian shades and natural materials such as wood and leather.

With the choice of a contemporary, fresh, and brighter “Scandinavian Blue” the new concept embraces the brand color and makes it the star again. For the international market, it was important to create an identity that emphasizes the Swedish heritage and to create a warm and inviting space for the many occasions.

In the café, the blue brand color has that strong presence, contrasted with tactile materials like tiles, linen wallpaper and blonde wood, and green plants. ‘Since the concept was created for a worldwide roll out it was important to create a toolbox of furniture modules that are scalable and flexible to fit into a wide range of spaces,’ explain the studios of Cilla’s and Peter’s.

An experience beyond coffee

Since the Swedish chain tapped Studio Cilla and Studio Peter Lundbergh, to create a new interior concept that celebrates Sweden’s “fika” culture, this project has been submitted for #FrameAwards2021 in the category of #Restaurant

With new solutions and sections, the new concept features many smart solutions that make it easier for those who want to eat or have a coffee sitting down as well as for those who buy take-away. There will be a clearer distinction between the comfortable seating area and the deli section near the entrance where the guests easily can make a purchase from the broad assortment of prepacked food as well as i.e., cinnamon buns from the in-store bakery.

“Another aspect also when selecting the Silestone is the positive side of that the material comes in different thicknesses. To be able to choose the thinner boards for certain areas make it easier for production and save both on the material and weight for transport which is important since the project is planned to go worldwide.”

Style that stands up to everyday use

Project Manager Francisco Muñoz from Cosentino Scandinavia was responsible for Silestone in this project and describes some of the advantages and requirements; “Since Silestone by Cosentino possesses the ideal characteristics for countertops as well as tops for the hospitality market the material was chosen.

With a low absorption level and high scratch resistance the surface will remain unchanged after its daily use. As the hospitality market is exposed to more extreme wear, Silestone is perfectly suited for its purpose.

The tabletops are pre-drilled according to drawing with inserts installed from the factory, which facilitates the assembly of these on site.

The new youth of a historic building

The former Lubro bread factory has a rich history in Utrecht. For years bread, bisquits and cookies were baked in the large bakery in the middle of the city. When the factory closed its doors in 2004, the flour silo was demolished and the former bakery and its offices remained silent for years. But after more than 10 years of vacancy, the former Lubro premises have been brought back to life: six iconic townhouses have been built in the former bakery and the office building has been converted into apartments and catering outlets.

Commissioned by Hurks Bouw, interior design and realization agency The Home Factory contributed ideas about the layout and living style. They made sure that living in a spacious factory hall became a reality.

Dekton Radium and Trilium in industrial heritage

In the industrial building old elements like window frames, pillars, brick and steel have been preserved and used as accent and framework for a beautiful modern living space. Furthermore, each home has its own unique look and layout, with The Home Factory elaborating the home according to the client’s wishes and situation.

For example, in one of the townhouses, the kitchen has been placed in the middle of the building, where the kitchen functions as a piece of furniture and an extension of the living room. For the kitchen worktop Dekton Radium was chosen. This color has a weathered appearance in different shades of brown and fits perfectly with the building and its history. The risers of the staircase adjacent to the kitchen are also made of the same Dekton material. The same color has been used in the cladding of the fireplace with matching worktop. In this way the two rooms communicate beautifully with each other.

For the bathroom, another industrial color of Dekton was chosen: Trilium. Here the material was used in the floor and back wall of the shower. By working with large tiles, an extra spatial result was created.

Durable Industrial

Radium and Trilium are colors inspired by the beauty of weathered, rusted metals with irregular, organic patterns. With the choice of Dekton Radium and Trilium, sustainability was chosen in addition to an industrial look. Not only are all Dekton colors carbon neutral produced, but these specific colors consist of 80% recycled materials which makes them extra sustainable.

Dekton, a resistant and sustainable surface

This innovative and forward-thinking project by Four Architects has created a relaxing and welcoming space at a Manchester office building for commuters to shower and change after cycling into work. Dekton in 4mm Kreta was specified for the walls and 8mm Lunar for the flooring, both from the Industrial collection, along with 11 Exelis shower trays in Nolita and three Silence basins in Miami Vena.

Dekton is a carbon neutral product for its entire life cycle, making it a truly sustainable choice perfect for climate conscious contractors. It’s also highly durable as it’s resistant to UV rays, scratches, stains and thermal shock and it can also be used for wall cladding and flooring both inside and out for a fully co-ordinated look

Hardman Street - 3 Cosentino 3Z7A3097 232

An easy-to-maintain surface

“When it came to designing the shower block and bike store, we knew we had to use durable, hardwearing materials,” explains Matt Atkinson, Director at Four Architects. “At the same time, the space needed to be easy to clean, hygienic and low maintenance as well as offering commuters and workers somewhere comfortable, warm and welcoming for them to shower and change after cycling into work then get changed again to cycle home. We really wanted bespoke basin and shower sizes and it was Cosentino’s cut to size facility that enabled us to achieve this.”

The whole project took around 12 weeks in total and this included tiling, laying the Dekton surfaces, installing showers, basins and the bike store. The result is a really forward-thinking space that commuters can use to help get their working day off to a great start. The eco-credentials of the Dekton also help to give this Manchester city centre office building a sustainable building solution.

A stunning 3-story home for the International Builders’ Show

The New American Home is the official show home for the annual International Builders’ Show, and it is all about showcasing innovative design concepts, industry best practices, and state-of-the-art products – and so is Cosentino. The 2021 show home designed by Phil Kean Design Group is located in Winter Park, a quaint and picturesque city in Central Florida, in which two town houses were combined to create a 3-story single family home. The designers wanted to incorporate technology and a modern aesthetic with a warmer palette to make the home inviting and specified Dekton Taga and Laurent in two different applications.

This architecturally interesting home is designed as a ‘treetop’ house where the main living space sits on the third floor among the trees giving the space incredible views and an urban loft feel. The third story is the gem of the space with jaw-dropping 14-foot ceilings and imposing windows that let in floods of natural light – it is also where Dekton can be found both in the interior and exterior areas of the home.

The New American Home - 21 low 298

Full height wall and fireplace cladding is a breeze for Dekton

As you reach the third story the first eye-catching element is a fireplace’s full height wall cladded in Dekton Taga. When dealing with slabs that run up walls and fireplaces, especially in applications as high as this one, there is risk of the material coming off if not installed correctly. Dekton 2cm slabs, however, are the perfect solution to reach the high ceilings on the living room fireplace. The grayish tones with marble and crystalline veins of Dekton Taga blend in perfectly with the warm tones and pops of color in the living room, and when bathed with sunlight, it is a sight for sore eyes.

Creating fully functional outdoor social spaces

The New American Home is also rich in fully functional outdoor spaces such as this stunning summer kitchen by Brown Jordan featuring Dekton Laurent. The dramatic black backdrop with gold crisscrossed veins is the perfect complement to the clementine-colored cabinets. Beyond its stunning aesthetics, Dekton stood out for its premium performance suited for the Florida weather. The state is constantly exposed to the blazing sun, heavy rains, and possible hurricanes, which is why outdoor materials need to be able to withstand the elements and maintain its properties and beauty, making Dekton the perfect fit.

This unique home design is energy efficient and sustainable and Dekton is its sustainability match made in heaven. Dekton is not only a certified Carbon Neutral product but is also manufactured using 100% renewable energy sources. The New American Home achieved renowned industry certifications such as Platinum LEED Certification, NGBS Emerald Certification with +Net Zero Energy, and +Wellness Badges.

Taking care of every last detail from the plate to the table

Food as a language of love. This is how renowned chef Aitor Jerónimo Orive sums up his passion for gastronomy, heritage of his homeland, the Basque Country, a region in northern Spain. “My grandparents are wonderful cooks and I always caught them in the kitchen, stirring a pot of hot, hearty and incredibly delicious food”, Aitor recalls. For Aitor, the logical step was to become a chef and open his own culinary space. So far, nothing unusual. Except that he opened his restaurant in Singapore, more than 11,000 kilometres away from home. It was there that he opened the Basque Kitchen, a Michelin-starred restaurant where Basque cuisine has become part of international cultural heritage.

Now, after several years of hard work that have earned him the appreciation of the general public, the Basque Kitchen by Aitor moves to the historic building The Fullerton Waterboat House, and does so under the guidance of the design studio Grey Matters, featuring Dekton as the reference material. “Moving from Amoy Street to its new location was a bold move that required careful planning. Redefining a brand that has such history and so much prestige is a task that must be handled with delicacy, sensitivity and the utmost care so as not to undermine all the hard work that the Chef and his team have put in over the last few years”, explains the studio.

Dekton Keyla and Silestone Eternal D’or

The design was to be minimal, bespoke and ultra luxurious. The choice of Cosentino’s surfaces, Dekton Kelya and Silestone Eternal D’Or, for the bar and cabinets was a logical step that improved both the performance of the space and the visual quality of the design. The result is a well-balanced palette of materials that creates a luxurious setting with high performance kitchen and bar areas that allow the Chef and his team to shine.

Beyond their design and finishes, both Dekton and Silestone provide highly resistant and easy to maintain surfaces that are perfect for kitchens, whether at home or in Michelin-starred restaurants, where the pace of work is hectic and each space must be planned to the millimetre.

The visual impact of large format Dekton

The new Liderim offices in Tel Aviv (Israel) exude elegance. Once in the reception area, there is an impressive desk made from a huge, seamless, large-format Dekton Aura slab. The effect is overwhelming, thanks to the use of the same material for the wall and ceiling cladding. The overall feeling is one of understated luxury, combining a material such as Dekton Aura, inspired by classic marble, with cement flooring and wood.

The desk has been created from several planes with a sought-after asymmetry, giving it movement and modernity, in contrast to the classic look of the finish itself. Dekton Aura, a colour from the Natural Collection, with grey to beige veining reminiscent of Calacatta and Carrara marble, contributes to this.

When the architect responsible for the project, Eli Hacohen, was asked why he chose Dekton Aura, the answer was clear: ‘I chose Dekton Aura for the Liderim offices because I wanted to convey understated luxury, and because of the versatility of the material for application as wall, ceiling and furniture cladding.’

Dekton, interior design down to the last millimetre

In the Liderim offices, everything is designed to create a welcoming atmosphere that invites employees and visitors to stay. To this end, the exterior features are integrated into the interior of the building, providing continuous visual communication, especially in the entrance, reception area and meeting rooms.

Everything has been controlled and meticulously executed. Nothing has been left to chance. Not surprisingly, the roof cutting and the wall cladding also required a great deal of precision and detailed planning. This was perhaps the main challenge of the project, which Hacohen successfully overcame thanks to the Cosentino team, which is always ready to provide technical solutions.

The choice of the same material, Dekton Aura, for the tables in the meeting rooms has been another success of the project. In addition to creating a cosy space, in combination with the beige leather chairs, the material connects with the reception area of the offices, strengthening the original creative concept. Dekton is also available in a thickness of only 4mm in its Slim version, which offers multiple possibilities as furniture cladding – table tops, cabinet fronts, and one-piece items such as side tables – without the disadvantages of natural stone, which is highly susceptible to scratches, liquids or sunlight exposure.

A well-designed LED lighting system, plant materials in the right places and plenty of natural light complete the final look.

The ideal surface for outdoor furniture

With Dekton, the founders of Belmento found the ideal surface for their outdoor furniture: beautiful, heat-resistant, UV and weather-proof.

The plan was to have a cosy barbecue evening. Yet the host was forever running back and forth between grill, kitchen and wine cellar. This is how the business idea came about: how cool would it be if you could combine them all? Since then, the three founders of Belmento have been passionate about furniture that is so functional, it results in the perfect outdoor kitchen. And so beautiful, it actually belongs inside the house.

Networks connect people. This is exactly what happened with Volker Podendorf, Daniel Ackermann and Holger Schmieding. For years, the three of them held leadership sales roles at large telecommunications providers. When their companies merged, they had the opportunity to break new ground together. “We are now selling something beautiful that you can touch”, enthuses Daniel Ackermann, co-managing director responsible for marketing and finance.

For months, the three friends fine-tuned their business model and developed their “perfect” product, which consists of a few well thought-out elements that at the same time offer many individual options. The focus is clearly on functionality and design. And the grill is at the centre. The five kitchen modules are made of galvanised, powder-coated steel with a width of 60 cm and 116 cm. Drawers, shelves and gas cylinder pull-out, as well as refrigerator, sink, and various premium grills, burners and cookers can be integrated perfectly.

Highest functionality and design standards

“The work surface was a challenge”, admits Daniel Ackermann. It needed to be weather and UV-resistant, so that even after years of permanent outdoor use, the appearance of the furniture would be affected as little as possible. This eliminated wood and composite materials containing resin. “In addition, the surface should be easy to clean and as scratch-resistant and heat-resistant as possible. Grease splashes are an integral part of grilling. And even if a sharp steak knife or an 800-degree hot cooking grate hit the surface, wherever possible they should not leave any traces.”

Belmento opted for Dekton by Cosentino. The material, which is also very popular with indoor kitchens, consists of up to 20 natural minerals that are moulded into an ultra-compact surface under high pressure and heat. The particle sintering technology replicates the metamorphic processes that take millions of years in the formation of natural stone in a controlled and accelerated manner. Dekton is completely inorganic, suitable for indoor and outdoor use and is available in over 50 different designs and textures.

The construction is modular, from the sideboard to the XXL outdoor kitchen

“Since Dekton is dyed homogeneously and available in large formats of up to 320 cm x 144 cm, the work surface can be individually tailored to the wishes of the customer”, says Daniel Ackermann. Now that the three founders have developed their perfect product, they are using their professional experience just as passionately when it comes to selling it. The modules can be easily assembled and are available from BBQ specialists, kitchen studios, interior designers and garden experts, but also online, so you can enjoy convivial barbecues.

A very personal restoration

For radio presenter Maddy Barber, the mere mention of Serangoon Gardens used to bring back fond childhood memories. Now, she’s calling it home once again. Home now is also the very same house she grew up in.

To add another twist to the story, Barber teamed up with her acclaimed industrial and interior designer brother, Gabriel Tan, for the restoration project of their childhood home.

Serangoon Gardens estate was built in the 1950s by British developer, Steven Charles Macey, to house the British soldiers and airmen of the Royal Air Force (RAF) stationed in Singapore. Fondly nicknamed ang sar lee for the red zinc roofs that were widely used on the houses, Serangoon Gardens is one of the oldest private residential estates on the island with few high-rise buildings. Yet, it still retains its old-world charm amidst the rapid urbanisation surrounding the district.

An art gallery with Dekton as a protagonist

For the project, Tan draws inspiration from the low-rise desert modern architecture and interiors he experienced in Palm Springs, California, which reminded him of the 1960s architecture that the family home was originally built in. The use of mint and terracotta red tones around the house is borne out of the style.

High-performance, high heat, scratch and stain resistant, easy to maintain, and above all, it should look and feel luxurious. These were the requirements in choosing surface materials for the restoration project, and Dekton meets them all.

The highly visually-inclined pair chose three colours from The Collection by Cosentino – Dekton Liquid Shell, Dekton Liquid Sky and Dekton Laurent.

“Dekton offers a wide variety of visual aspects; be it minimalistic, simple, marble or granite effect, Dekton has it all,” says Tan, creative director of Gabriel Tan Studio and Studio Antimatter.

“We want a seamless surface where the visual aspect is much stronger, and also better for maintenance”

Chromatic harmony for the senses

Overlooking the courtyard, the master bath is an ethereal and holistic sanctuary conceived to calm the mind, dressed in Dekton Liquid Sky. Liquid Sky’s swirling, marbled, cloud-like pattern takes one away into another world.

In the master bedroom, the fluidity of Dekton Liquid Sky pairs beautifully with the terracotta blush coloured wall. The vanity top also features Liquid Sky for perfect harmony.

Dekton Liquid Shell is chosen for its subtlety and softness which complement the mint, terracotta red tones and the terrazzo flooring in the spacious kitchen, which Barber calls the heart of her home.

“For the entire kitchen, I eventually went with the cream coloured, textured Liquid Shell… which I cannot stop looking at and touching because it is so incredibly beautiful,” quips Barber on her choice of colour for the kitchen island, countertop and backsplash.
