A golf club that plays with the aesthetics

American golf course designer Kyle Philips designed Golf Club Bernardus in Cromvoirt (The Netherlands). An extraordinary prestigious project for which architect Pieter Laureijs developed the furniture in collaboration with Borek outdoor furniture. They chose the ultra-compact Dekton surface both for its attractive design, which fitted in with the aesthetic line of the project, and its high resistance outdoors.

Golf Club Bernardus, situated in the rural area of Brabant in the south of the Netherlands, is the newest golf course of The Netherlands and has the allure to become the number 1 golf court of the country. Next door to the country club a restaurant with a terrace has been realized which accommodates not only as a ‘19th hole’ for golf players, but is also open for public. The restaurant Noble Kitchen with adjacent terrace on Bernardus is being run by Michelin star chef Edwin Kats of restaurant Noble located in Den Bosch (1 Michelin star).

A material designed to endure the weather

The prestigious Golf Club had high standards for the terrace, which has to convey luxury and comfort in all weather conditions. In collaboration with Borek and Cosentino golf course designer Laureijs designed a custom-made chair and tables especially for the terrace of Bernardus.

For the tabletops Dekton by Cosentino was chosen, due to the extraordinary characteristics of the material: Uv-resistance, resistant to abrasion, ice and thawing, stains and sudden differences in temperature. This makes Dekton very suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. Several tabletops were designed in different round, square and rectangular measurements. Worktops in 2 cm where made out of Dekton Trilium. This color has an industrial urban look and has been inspired by oxidized steel, which gives a rough appearance perfect fort his special location. As an extra advantage, this color consists for 80% out of recycled materials and brings an environmentally friendly choice.

Awarded as the best newly constructed building in Latvia in 2020

A unique and sustainable project

Located in the heart of Riga, Origo shopping centre has recently been transformed into a hub of intense economic and social activity.

The building has been extended with six new floors with offices, restaurants and an underground car park. Cosentino ultra compact surface, Dekton, has been used for the flooring and stairs. The key reasons for choosing Dekton have included its BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) high score, and its great resistance to the high pedestrian traffic.

Thanks to Cosentino’s Dekton iD service, it has been possible to create a bespoke “clock” design which has been used on floors, creating an avant-garde space.

Dekton iD, limitless designs

The main visual attraction of the new facilities lies in the clock embedded in the flooring of one of its central squares. Customized pieces fitted together like a puzzle and creating a high-impact visual sensation from Sirius and Danae colours.

Dekton iD service includes personalised advice from Cosentino’s R&D team together with the architectural studio, with the aim of customizing Dekton slabs to create exclusive colours, unique patterns, original textures and finishes.

A flooring that complies with BREEAM certification.

The extension of the shopping centre also had an ambitious goal: to achieve a high BREEAM rating. Dekton has obtained the Environmental Product Declaration. This makes it easy for a project to be in compliance with the high sustainability requirements imposed by the legislation.

Dekton iD service, together with the high performance of its ultra-compact surface, have turned the Origo shopping centre into an exclusive space designed to last.

An interior design solution that changes with the need

They shape our sense of space, sustain and support – yet walls tend to remain largely ignored. But the “The Wall” is different: this wall system can be designed on an individual and flexible basis and offers more functions than a Swiss army knife. The innovative product comes from the designer kitchen manufacturer Orea from Zurich, which has just opened a new showroom in Chur. Its subsidiary of the same name in Regensburg (Germany) handles international sales. As managing shareholder, Johannes Falk has significantly influenced the development of “The Wall”.

The wall - The wall dekton 33 134

Decoration made easy

“We wanted to create a beautiful, multi-functional product that is at the same time extremely easy to install – like the Plug & Play feature of an iPhone,” says Falk, who drove the expansion of a large Apple reseller before entering the premium kitchen sector. Indeed, Orea had to learn the same lesson as Steve Jobs: simple can be harder than complex. But all the effort has paid off. Shortly after its launch in 2019, “The Wall” received the highest accolade at the Red Dot Award, winning “Best of the Best” in the Product Design category.

The jury was impressed by its simple basic construction, clear design language and versatile adjustment possibilities. The base is made of a lightweight yet torsion-resistant preformed aluminium frame system. Patented rails from Orea are then added with a four-phase power supply (24 volts for safety reasons). Accessories such as shelves, LED lamps, induction charging stations or Bluetooth speakers can thus be positioned at any point facing up or down the wall.

A surface that triggers the imagination in any space

The wall surface can be fashioned from materials such as antique wood, glass, Alucobond, melamine resin and stone – and, a recent addition, Dekton® by Cosentino. “Dekton is available in more than 50 different designs. This means the wall system can be adapted to match the work surface or floor tiles or even feature independent components,” explains Ervin Joska, Managing Director of Cosentino Stuttgart. “The ultra-compact surface is colourfast and UV-resistant, and in thicknesses of 4 to 12 mm can also be used in large formats up to 3.2 m.”

Cosentino and Orea are working in close cooperation to position “The Wall” successfully in the market. “This is a refreshingly new design product for kitchen studios and the entire interior design industry,” asserts Ervin Joska. The wall system is pre-assembled in a tailor-made format and design to enable quick installation. “It’s a product that fires the imagination”, says Johannes Falk. “As with the iPhone, the simple individualisation and diversity of the applications of “The Wall” allow the concept of walls to grow exponentially.”

A refurbishment that looks to the future

The capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, is strategically located on a small peninsula in the Caspian Sea. It is a historical link between the East and West, and its international airport is proof of this. The redevelopment of Heydar Aliyev not only allowed the airport to include more flights, but also completely changed its .appearance. Today, this key facility for the country, is an architectural benchmark as functional as it is attractive.

The outdoor flooring refurbishment was one of the main changes that the government authorities required. They were looking for a futuristic appearance, in line with the city’s new architectural projects, such as the ‘Flame Towers’, where striking geometric shapes capture the attention of those who look at them. The customization possibilities of the Dekton iD service resulted in a unique design.

Dekton iD, customization in detail

The Baku airport captivates the traveller from the minute they enter, as they are greeted with extensive Dekton flooring, consisting of equilateral triangles of 1.5 metres side length, which was designed especially for the entrance. The chromatic variation in three shades of Sirius colour -specially created for this design-, together with the geometric shapes, produce a striking 3D effect of raised cubes that is reflected in the window of the main entrance to the building.

With the Dekton iD service, it is possible to customize Dekton slabs down to the smallest detail, from the cut and colour – as in this Project -, to the texture and finish. Overall, the entrance to Baku airport results in a continuous flow where the tone of Sirius slate forms a natural extension of the building’s façade, which is also clad with triangular glass panes.

A material that preserves chromatic homogeneity

In any large architectural project, outdoor flooring is a complex space that is constantly exposed to sunlight, high pedestrian traffic and thermal contrasts, which can generate material damage or colour degradation. Thanks to its composition and aesthetic properties, Dekton overcomes these challenges and guarantees both colour resistance and homogeneity, that remain unchanged over time.

With five million passengers a year, Baku airport is a major transportation hub not only for Azerbaijan, but for the entire Middle East region, and has become a unique architectural reference.

A material that adapts to any need

First impressions are so important in business. That is why it was worth choosing the right solution to design the reception area of One South County, a building that attracts business and talent in equal measure. The wide and imposing reception desk has been covered in 20 mm Kira Dekton, a colour and format that captures the attention of all those who visit the premises.

Dekton is an ideal solution for commercial projects in spaces that experience intense activity and high traffic, thanks to the resistant nature of the material. It is highly resistant to scratches and stains, meaning it can also be easily cleaned. Another important highlight is the fact that the slabs can be manufactured in large formats or custom sizes, offering architects and designers a high level of precision.

The ideal vein for a formal setting

Kira’s delicately veined and warm grey colour is an irresistible complement to the linear patterns that play an important role in the decor of the reception area. Giving the impression of having been carved from a single piece of natural stone, the effect across the desk as a whole represents a true exercise in minimalism and simplicity.

One South County is a prestigious avant-garde 12,840 m2 building of five floors, designed by the award-winning architects of The O’Toole Partnership (TOTP). Furthermore, the South County Business Park is in a prime location of Dublin, easily accessible from anywhere in the city as well as from other surrounding counties such as Wicklow, Kildare, Meath and Louth. The main public transport lines pass through this business park, located approximately 9 km from Dublin’s city centre.

An important industrial area where materials are key

Aliağa is an industrial district of the Turkish city of Izmir, principally home to oil refineries, lubricant factories, shipyards and steel manufacturing plants. All kinds of chemical particles can be found in an environment like this – in the air, ground and even the rain. These composites can easily damage almost any kind of surface.

The architects in charge of designing the new headquarters for Open Fuchs, a leading lubricant manufacturer, were clear about the critical importance of the materials used for the façade as well as the interior facilities. The project required a surface that could withstand abrasive environments while fulfilling the aesthetic requirements of a multinational company. Dekton proved to be the perfect material.

Open Fuchs - Open 1 255
Open Fuchs - Open 2 257

Security provided by certification

For Mehmet Yağcıoğlu, one of the architects responsible for the project, it was essential to choose a material that could resist some particularly hostile exterior conditions. “This is an area that is home to all kinds of industries. The building needed to withstand the effects of its surroundings while also reflecting the importance of the brand”.

Dekton has been awarded certifications that demonstrate its higher resistance to UV rays, extremes of heat and cold and, in particular, chemical agents.

For Yağcıoğlu, it was also important to find a material that would work well in large formats and Dekton was the perfect solution for this requirement.

Dekton makes it easy

For their part, the team from Eyla Mermer&Granit, fabricators and installers, enjoyed working with Cosentino materials. “It was exciting to see how Dekton Kelya 8 mm would be used for the interior surfaces and Dekton Domoos 8 mm for the façade”.

For industry professionals, it’s particularly relevant to work with a highly adaptable material, whose technical specifications go hand-in-hand with aesthetic qualities.

A facade that will last a long time

This building, visible form the De Singel (R10) bypass and leading towards Amberes Sur, will not go unnoticed. The south side of the ’t Hooghe Huys building has received a complete revamp, giving it a unique and attractive look thanks to the use of Dekton Danae facade panels from Cosentino. The project, managed by VME Brederodestraat 184, was carried out by the Stramien architectural firm. Throughout the project, the Amberes firm relied on the support of Gevelinzicht, an engineering company specialising in facade renovation.

But ’t Hooghe Huys was already a familiar figure for Tine Durnez, designer from Stramien. “I lived in that building until three years ago”, she says. “So I completely understood first hand the issues the south facade had experienced for a long time, especially in terms of insulation and waterproofing. The ageing facade, built in the 70s, appeared to be built in natural stone, but further investigation revealed that it was constructed using moulded cement panels stuck to the structure. Problems began to appear relatively quickly, so a metallic cladding was installed on the facade.

Flexible panels that are easy to install, made by Dekton

Throughout the project to renovate the south facade of the famous residential building, Gevelinzicht offered support to Stramien in terms of technical design and cost management. “A project such as this is precisely what we specialise in”, explains Joni Staljanssens from Gevelinzicht. “In the end, we went through an exhaustive process until we reached this really attractive solution. Our first idea was to use a natural stone finish for the facade, with panels pinned to the walls in the traditional way. This was the preferred solution for the customer and one that the Amberes Council supported.

Staljanssens points out, “However, it turned out that natural stone would not be flexible or effective enough. So we began to look for high quality materials that looked like stone but had the technical qualities needed to keep out damp and allow for the building of a facade with elements of ventilation, exposed joints and suitable materials for a building of that height”.

A 1,000 m² feat of engineering

A total of 1000 metres of Dekton® Danae (12 mm) was used. The result is not only a milestone in engineering, but is also visually attractive. According to Tine Durnez: “Dekton is not synthetic stone, so it appears natural both in terms of how it looks and feels. What’s more, the panels do not have a prefabricated print, so each one is completely unique. In the end, we decided to work with large-scale surfaces with a width of 158 cm and with three different heights: 45, 72 and 92 cm. We used 141 cm wide panels of varying heights for the surfaces below the windows.”

Durnez stressed that “positioning the large panels successfully was like building a giant puzzle, but I believe that we have done a great job of it. In terms of the colour (Danae), we wanted to find a shade as close to natural stone as possible, and we didn’t take long to make a decision. For a while, we were thinking about making the central area a different colour, but in the end we went for uniformity in order to reinforce the atmosphere of peace and tranquillity”.

The perfect material to fast-track projects

Through this project, Stramien and Gevelinzicht acquired a deeper understanding of the aesthetic, practical and engineering qualities of Dekton. According to Joni Staljanssens: “Designing, installing and adjusting the aluminium scaffolding took some time, but thanks to the precision of the structure, we were able to position the panels onto the facade in just a few weeks”.

Tine Durnez agreed. “Dekton is a very attractive material when it comes to refining each detail. For example, we were able to create a light contour ledge from the same material that the windows are made from. We will definitely keep the fantastic experience we’ve had with Dekton in mind for future projects. We also found that a holistic strategy is crucial with this kind of refurbishment. It’s not enough to simply replace one material on the facade for another. Every aspect should be considered, including the insulation materials and even the carpentry ones. What’s more, you must ensure that it’s waterproof and thermal bridges were not an option. That’s what we’ve managed to achieve, thanks, in part, to Dekton”.

An innovative facade for a traditional building

Archway Tower has been a feature of the London skyline since 1963, when the 17-storey building was first erected. According to the trend of the time, the original facade was clad using a combination of concrete and glazed panels.

In 2016 the tower underwent a complete refurbishment that involved updating its facade, completely transforming the exterior thanks to the ultracompact surface Dekton by Cosentino.

Cladding needs are covered with Dekton

Archway Tower’s new skin uses a total of 3,000 m2 of Dekton in the colour Danae and 12mm thickness. This new aesthetic has helped the office block to blend into its surroundings – a neighbourhood that is very close to the centre of London and which, in recent years, has seen significant architectural and urban changes. Danae’s matte finish helps to preserve the classic quality of the original building, however.

The tower’s refurbishment has not only been about looks: it has also been converted from an office block to a residential building. Understanding that its needs have changed, the developers decided to remove the concrete panels in favour of Dekton® cladding, using insulation technology by StoVentec.

A surface built to withstand inclement weather

Thanks to its new ventilated facade, Archway Tower now has both thermal and acoustic insulation. The comfort provided by the building since its refurbishment goes hand in hand with its improved appearance. The design of the Dekton cladding panels in the main elevations follows a regular grid of openings.

Aesthetics and engineering combine to form Dekton’s technical characteristics, such as its high resistance to UV rays and staining, and its colour stability, which combine to make it the perfect material for facades.

Dekton by Cosentino Certifications

Dekton has obtained the ETA 14/0413 (European Technical Evaluation) document and the CE marking for its external ventilated facade cladding. Thanks to its properties, Dekton surfaces can be perfectly incorporated into facades using different types of concealed fixings made from stainless steel or aluminium./p>

Cosentino’s ETA (European Technical Assessment) includes the characterisation and experimental evaluation of the suitability of the Dekton surface for use in cladding facades: resistance to wind, impact and fire, durability and the characterisation of the fixings necessary to be properly incorporated onto the facade. The performance of exterior cladding for ventilated façades with the CE marking has been assessed by a third party and it presents proven performance characteristics in compliance with European methods.

Dekton has replaced heavy concrete and is complemented perfectly by StoVentec’s insulation technology

Facade, flooring, elevators, floors, interiors, and more. A dream realized in more than 28,000 m2 of Dekton

Located in the centre of Tel Aviv at the junction of two shopping streets, the ToHa building reaches 29 stories high. Its unique, faceted profile, inspired by the geometry of an iceberg, was designed by Ron Arad together with Avner Yashar’s local team to house an office complex that includes a public garden, viewing point and restaurant.

Innovative and functional interior and exterior architecture

From a functional point of view, this ambitious project turns the traditional layout of an office block on its head, locating the facilities on the ground floor to free up space at the top. This way, the upper levels can be dedicated to leisure use and the offices are distributed from the seventh floor and up, optimizing access to natural light and views.

The technical foundations are clad using a unique ventilated facade system that alternates the orientation of intersecting Dekton® panels. This application allows for the passage of air between the large-format (320 x 70 cm) plates and creates a uniform frontage that gives texture and depth to the elevation. Cosentino also offers the opportunity to custom-make a personalized palette of six colours, based on the Strato model, that create a progressive colour gradation from the lower part upwards.

Interior and exterior: A balance of light and visual continuity

Inside, a huge 30-metre atrium acts as a vestibule and meeting point. The offices face outwards, through a glass facade, and inwards towards the central patio lit by a large light well.

Finishes have been carefully chosen to create a comfortable workplace and coherent corporate image. The possibility to produce large-format Dekton pieces for floors, walls and ceilings allows the number of joints to be reduced and the sense of continuity to be maximized.
