A home for families of hospitalised children

To support and care for the families of hospitalised children, the Ronald McDonald Foundation, established in 1994, has provided parents with warm, welcoming homes in the vicinity of hospitals. In France alone more than 57,000 families have stayed in the ten homes run by the Foundation. Cosentino has donated material and equipped the kitchen of one of these homes, located in Paris, near the Robert-Debré hospital. This is Cosentino’s small part to help build a welcoming space that allows hospitalised children to be close to their families, thus maintaining an emotional balance that is crucial for their healing.

The Nouvelle Maison house in Paris was built two years ago next to the second leading children’s hospital in Europe, and welcomes families of children from all over the world. Families have free access to the building and have a separate bedroom at their disposal. The kitchen is a common area open 24 hours a day for parents’ use. Here they can relax, socialise with other families and recharge their batteries away from the hospital environment.

Warm and functional design

Fabricator Adequate shaped the plans designed by Saint-Lô-based kitchen design studio Lejamtel, who chose Dekton Sirius to equip the kitchen of this house. Specifically, 25 square metres of Dekton Sirius were used for the worktops. This black shade adds depth to the atmosphere thanks to its textured appearance and greenish hues. It is the perfect contrast to the palette of light tones used in the furniture, flooring and walls.

For many years to come

In addition to its modern and refined design, Dekton has the ideal technical features for use in this high traffic kitchen. It is easy to clean and resistant to heat, stains and scratches, making it the perfect solution for a communal kitchen. Furthermore, its easy maintenance makes it a material with great durability, keeping it looking as good as new.

Doing our bit

As in other projects, the Ronald McDonald Foundation and its partners, as well as Cosentino through its donation of products, have the role of accompanying and supporting all these families who are going through a difficult time. All funding comes from donations. “All these drops of water create oceans and make it possible to finance, build and run these homes”, says Franck Pérez, Director of the Maison Ronald McDonald Paris. “Having such a beautiful kitchen with such large spaces and worktops will create memorable evenings for children and parents alike”, he concludes.

The new skin of the TQ InvestPro building in Girona

In the heart of the city of Girona, the new skin of the TQ InvestPro real estate company’s building transforms the skyline with contemporary touches thanks to its clean design with horizontal lines. Designed by the Arquitecturia studio, the building has a revamped façade that has been clad with Dekton, as well as the outdoor terrace flooring.

The design features large windows that open and close like a book and are concealed when closed, leaving the façade completely opaque and clean in terms of visual appearance.

The ideal material

The choice of Dekton for this ventilated façade was a great technical solution to solve this architectural challenge. The surface proved to be the ideal material after several tests for this type of window with the blacksmith, in addition to ‘the unbeatable conditions we were offered and the excellent treatment and service throughout the process’, the studio explains. The technical properties of this material, which is resistant to temperature changes and stains, make Dekton an optimal surface for outdoor use. Another added value is the aesthetics of the chosen colours, which give a modern and contemporary look. Inspired by the classic cement floors, with a calm movement, Dekton Kreta brings a seamless design in matt texture and grey colour.

An efficient system

The ventilated façade has a Keil system, which conceals the anchors and provides thermal protection, favouring energy saving and, above all, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly building. A construction solution that fits perfectly with Dekton thanks to its lightness and thickness. The result is a simple but efficient and aesthetically powerful construction option.

The neighborhood’s urbanistic codes required maintaining the original facade, which has been given a revamp and unified in a white tone. Inside, the floors descend to the rear garden, where the building shows its true scale. The fragmentation of the different levels results in a variety of spatial and visual experiences, thanks to double heights and interior balconies.

The central space connects the various rooms and is crowned with a large skylight that floods the entire complex with daylight. The dominant white is only interrupted by the ocher of the flooring and the constant presence of plants both inside and out, pervading all the spaces and playing a fundamental role in the house.

San Juan de Ruesta Chapel - 20220209 SergioSebastian ErmitaRuesta 01 169

Facing the Leyre mountains amid elms and oaks, this hermitage is known for having once harbored a major collection of Romanesque paintings. Deprived of its old purpose and paintings, the building was abandoned in 2001 and fell into ruin. Sebastián Arquitectos undertook the project of restoring its original massing and giving pilgrims a new shaded spot to stop for a rest.

The new roof is set on the old one with a composition of horizontal lines that give continuity to the bond of the original masonries and putlog holes. The plane of the intervention is slightly set back from the line of the preexisting wall. On the outside, stones salvaged from demolished parts of the hermitage are positioned in an orderly pattern that invites visitors to enter the old chapel.

Danish design

The 2021 edition was the first time that the Danish Embassy in Madrid participated as an exhibitor at Casa Decor, one of the most important events for decoration lovers in Spain. It had a good reason for doing so: to highlight the universality and timelessness of Danish design, embodied by outstanding figures like Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, Verner Panton or Poul Henningsen or by renowned contemporary firms like Bang & Olufsen, Carl Hansen & Son, Fritz Hansen, Kvadrat or Louis Poulsen that rework these geniuses and for which Spanish designers like Jaime Hayón or Yonoh studio work.

The diplomatic mission chose the interior designer Erico Navazo to turn the impressive tower of the Casa de Tomás Allende, located at 3 Plaza de Canalejas (Madrid), into a stunning flat inspired by the New Bauhaus, an artistic and cultural movement of which Denmark is the leading exponent. The exceptional building, unique in the capital for its profuse regionalist-style decoration, was designed by the Cantabrian architect Leonardo Rucabado in 1916, but after his sudden death in 1918 it was completed by the architects Ramiro Saiz Martínez and Pedro Cabello Maíz, who faithfully followed his project.

A humanistic and sustainable approach

‘In my project, I try to capture the personality of my clients by tailoring my work to their needs. My design is born out of their need, I never forget that,’ says Erico Navazo who, on this occasion, has made the New Bauhaus designers’ way of working more than ever his own, with a humanistic and sustainable approach, based on craftsmanship and noble materials. For this group, everyday objects should improve people’s lives and be made in a sustainable way so that they last over time and in a universal spirit, integrating traditional elements from different cultures. In this space, wood, natural stone, leather and wool are paired with other reclaimed materials, maintaining the tradition of environmental friendliness and true sustainability.

Sensa, a stain-resistant natural stone

As a great lover of natural stone, the interior designer from Burgos, Erico Navazo, opted for a spectacular vertical fireplace in Sensa Vancouver by Cosentino, a Brazilian quartzite on a white background with veins that can have a greater or lesser thickness, creating a cracked surface that invites us to touch it.

Sensa by Cosentino stones are protected with a revolutionary stain-resistant treatment called SenGuard, which includes a 15-year warranty against staining, a perfect ally to avoid soot or grease marks.

The new look of the Meliá Hotel in Milan

After the complete redesign of several areas, including the lobby, restaurant, meeting rooms and bathrooms, one of the landmark hotels in the Italian city of Milan is sporting a fresh new look. The renovation, carried out jointly by Spanish architect Álvaro Sans and Vittorio Grassi Architects, has given a new look to the Meliá Milano, a hotel located in Via Masaccio, very close to the trendy area known as City Life, the new centre of luxury shopping in the city.

The functional and architectural approach of the renovation project led to the rebirth of this 20-year-old hotel, opening up spaces by creating a new, spacious and flexible layout of the common areas. The interior gardens, high skylights and contemporary use of materials and textures give the bar, restaurant and co-working area a sophisticated feel.

A chic colour

Style and functionality are the main elements of this project in which natural materials such as marble, wood and green shades have been combined with Cosentino surfaces. Specifically, Silestone Eternal Marquina was used for the cladding and countertops of the bathrooms, the alcoves and furniture in the meeting rooms, and the worktops and several tables in the buffet and bar area. “The Suede finish creates a unique feeling of comfort”, says Vittorio Grassi. “Furthermore, its appearance, imitating the veins and nuances of precious exotic marbles, fits well with the Spanish marbles in the common areas and the style of Vescom’s fire retardant curtain fabrics”, he further says.

Hygiene standards and easy maintenance

In addition to the Suede finish, polishing has been applied in the bathroom area. “Functionality is a key element of hotel management and, in the case of business accommodation, bathroom areas can get very crowded”, explains the architect. “The Silestone wall claddings in a glossy finish allowed us to achieve the style we were looking for but with an ease of maintenance that meets the hygiene standards you would expect in a five star hotel”, he adds. As a result, the combination of luxury, beauty and technical properties for high traffic areas is perfect.

A façade with luxurious details

Skin is at the heart of the business model of Integrated Aesthetics, a centre offering comprehensive plastic surgery and dermatology treatments. The building’s façade was designed to be in dialogue with its interior spaces, where beauty plays a major role in the design. Method Architects took on the challenge of designing this façade using materials that would create a well-detailed and balanced composition, including Dekton by Cosentino.

Method Architects first learned about Dekton in Houston, Texas, where they worked in collaboration with the Cosentino team to find the perfect shade for the project. Its aim was to achieve a surprise effect. The chosen colour, Orix, achieved this perfectly.

Industrial beauty

Inspired by industrial design, the worn cement look of Orix adds the ideal touch to this facade, achieving a luxurious and professional finish, in line with office interiors. In addition to style and beauty, the use of Dekton brought a number of advantages thanks to its technical properties. On the one hand, it contributes to the energy efficiency of the building. It is also maintenance free, weather, scratch and stain resistant and easy to clean.

The new configuration addresses the needs of the occupants, who wanted a place in which to live, work or exercise. The spaces are neutral, flexible, and adaptable to genealogical changes and their consequences. The original perimeter has been broken up by courtyards, terraces, and balconies, and each level is divided longitudinally into two bays measuring 3.5 and 5.5 meters, with an 86-centimeter level difference.

In this way, what was a dark, much partitioned old residence is now open and bright, and the staircase is no longer a spatial and lighting obstacle but an essential heterogeneous space. All the strategies applied were aimed at making the new spaces as bright as possible, and with a palette of neutral materials, so it’s the inhabitants and their belongings that will fill the place with color.

Elegant design for the lobby and the meeting room

More than an office complex, Continental Towers in Illinois is a space for collaboration and connection. This was the driving force behind the refurbishment process of its main lobby, which connects the three towers, and its service area, which was transformed into a meeting point. Whitney Architects, the firm in charge of the project, worked closely with the client to achieve a refreshed and contemporary look for these spaces.

For this purpose, a material was needed which, in addition to being aesthetically strong, could withstand the heavy daily traffic of people and metal trolleys on which the company’s material is delivered. The client had already thought of Dekton as the ideal material for this, especially because of its hardness and low porosity, and preferred the Soke and Kelya colours for the interior cladding of both rooms.

Entrance to the three towers

The main lobby connects the three office towers and welcomes hundreds of people every day. In this area, Soke was chosen as the cladding solution for the entrance to each tower. The grey colour inspired by classic cement adds a touch of elegance and modern style, perfect for this ambience. Furthermore, the architect wanted to integrate modern and stylish signs for each entrance. Cosentino therefore proposed cutting the number of each tower directly into the Dekton slabs with a water jet. In addition, custom lightning was integrated behind the cut-out letters, so that the solution becomes an illuminated sign, achieving a very personal look and realising the architect’s idea.

Leisure and work area

The other refurbished space is the CT Social Club, a space in the office complex designed for meeting, relaxation and informal gatherings of the towers’ employees and offering spectacular views. In this area, the employees can have lunch, meet, work or simply relax. One of the walls was clad in Dekton Keyla, with a built-in fireplace and a television, adding design and an elegant atmosphere. This colour, inspired by dark marble with light veining, is the key feature and dialogues with the geometric patterned flooring and the touch of colour in the furniture. The result is a stunning, versatile space designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

Practical and functional beauty

Optimising space through the highest quality and achieving an exclusive and comfortable atmosphere are the challenges when designing the interior of a yacht such as the Emocean by Rosetti Superyachts. In this particular case, the highlight of the design is the large table that has been installed on the deck, made from Dekton large format slabs. The designer needed a versatile, easy to customise, large material to create this functional element and give flexibility to the space. He found the perfect solution in this material from Cosentino.

Specifically, this application has been installed on a wooden structure with metal brackets, allowing the table to be split and extended as required Furthermore, thanks to the 8 mm thick Dekton slabs, the tabletop is very thin and elegant as well as lightweight, a key element in yacht design.

A minimalist touch

The colour chosen was Nilium, from the Industrial series. Inspired by silver metal, Nilium offers a minimalist design with a mix of white and grey shades. A warm colour that is perfect for creating a sense of spaciousness in the available space of the yacht. It is also a durable and easy to maintain material, which makes it ideal for use on boats, as it will always look as good as new. Furthermore, being a non porous material, Dekton is not affected by salt water and the material is also resistant to sun exposure, so its colour will not fade over time.
