Nine Dekton and Silestone applications

It is no coincidence to find up to nine applications of Dekton and Silestone in the same project. Rast Grup’s architect Tuğce Özdoğan is in love with Cosentino products and has used them extensively on interior and exterior walls, worktops and on the reception desk of these offices.

For the wall cladding, the designer has combined the sand and beige colours and marbled finishes of Dekton Arga, Dekton Royal Reef and Dekton Taga, with the grey and black shades and industrial finishes of Dekton Milar and Dekton Spectra.

This beige and black combination pattern has also been used on the worktops and other horizontal surfaces, but with different finishes: Dekton Edora, from the Natural collection, provides the cream colour while Dekton Radium adds the black and industrial touch. The only concession to classicism comes from Silestone Snowy Ibiza, a bright white with very subtle grey veins.

The result is a very attractive combination of textures and nuances from two unique shades.

AVEND Çayyolu, the Premium brand of Rast Grup

The offices of the construction company Rast Grup are located in the brand new AVEND Çayyolu building. AVEND is the brand used by Rast Grup for its premium residential buildings, ensuring innovation and the highest quality standards for its residents. It is not surprising that “avend” means peak or high rank in Ottoman Turkish. AVEND’s mission is to always aim for the top and respond to people’s needs.

To meet such an ambitious mission, it was necessary to use innovative and quality materials such as Dekton and Silestone.

Perfectly combined with natural stone

In June 2019, the Anarchitect studio completed this stunning luxury villa of more than 3,000m2 of gross floor space, in Dubai Hills, winner of the Interior Design of the Year 2019 (CID Awards). This private home is designed according to the principles of modern architecture, using large volumes of natural stone. The two-level home has a beautiful interior courtyard that allows air and natural light to enter and connects the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The use of natural stone throughout the project relates to the harsh weather conditions of Dubai and the studio’s taste for ‘mouldable’ handcrafted materials. In the case of the open kitchen and bar area, the client specifically wanted a material that, in combination with natural stone, would withstand the demands of family and social life. Dekton Kelya stands out as the best solution, just like the Boffi kitchen and the bar designed by the Anarchitect studio.

Dekton Kelya is a material from the Natural Collection in a black colour with fine light veining reminiscent of dark marble. In this project, it has been used for the worktop of the kitchen island and the bar in the social area of the home. The contrast between the black Kelya and hazelnut-coloured wood creates a warm and cosy mix of colours and textures.

A ‘social’ and very versatile home

Dubai Hills Villa is a good example of the new concept of housing as a multifunctional space where wellness is combined with entertainment, social life and home office. In this home designed to host and enjoy leisure events, show-cooking and cocktails play an important role. Hence, the materials chosen must meet the highest expectations.

The bar is a unique Anarchitect design in oak wood, beautifully blended with natural stone and the Dekton Kelya worktop: several planes with a balanced asymmetry. The same materials are used for the wall cladding, giving a glimpse of a complete wine cellar.

Such a highly acclaimed and award-wining project would not have been possible without the teamwork between different disciplines. Other firms have collaborated with Anarchitect: BW Interiors as contractors, Urban Landscapes for structural work, John Cullen for lighting, Carter Associates as project managers and H&H Studios for decoration and furnishings. Congratulations to all of them!

The shop “Busted” gets a new look

Busted is a fashion shop for young people located in the main shopping area of Silkeborg, in northern Denmark. The shop needed an update to attract a younger and more demanding clientele. During this refurb process, both the façade and the shop window played a key role in attracting customers to the shop.

Busted’s owners commissioned architect Morten Thomsen, founder of MMe Byg Aps, to undertake the renovation and interior design project. Thomsen invested time in researching different cladding solutions that could radically change the Busted façade. In his search, he had the good fortune to come across Cosentino’s Project Manager for the region, who introduced him to the Dekton brand and its countless benefits for façade applications.

Morten was impressed with the 8mm thick slabs, which allow for on-site handling and processing, as well as the use of an invisible adhesive for fixing.

You can’t go wrong with Dekton Danae

MMe Byg Aps studio wanted a colour that would appeal to Busted’s target customers: women with a youthful, casual style, and within a fairly broad age range. From the very beginning, Dekton Danae was a favourite finish because of its brightness and timeless character. Its availability in large format slabs- 320 x 144 cm – and in two textures – grip and matt – were two highly valued aspects in the final choice. After all, it is not for nothing that this is one of Cosentino’s best sellers.

The new Busted shop, which opened in spring 2021, now looks spectacular on one of Silkeborg’s most popular shopping streets. Long-time customers are delighted with the change and, more importantly, the new look is attracting a new clientele who had never thought of coming.

The renovation of the Busted shop is yet another example of the importance of design in public spaces in commercial terms. It also illustrates how quickly the investment is recouped when the project is well planned and you work with a partner like Cosentino.

A ‘facelift’ for Westfield Newmarket

Westfield Newmarket shopping centre in central Auckland, New Zealand, reopened in August 2019. After 18 months of construction work, this shopping centre, which dates back to the 1980s, reopened its doors with a new look, 230 shops and 2,800 parking spaces.

The project involved the renovation and extension of the existing building, doubling its previous size and quadrupling the number of shops. After many months of work and an investment of 790 million dollars, the updated Newmarket rises majestically between 277 and 309 Broadway Street.

It was clear to the team of architects from the Scentre Group, the project developer, that the façade would play a key role in the renovation process. In addition to becoming the most eye-catching design feature, it had to incorporate the latest technology in terms of energy efficiency. A ventilated façade therefore appeared to be the most suitable choice. And for this ventilated façade, there was no better partner than Dekton.

The installation was carried out by the Eurotherm Facades NZ team. Two anchoring systems were used in the process: the Etem Alum Systemand the Keil Anchor. The technical support from Cosentino’s headquarters in Spain was key to the successful execution, providing a prompt and professional advisory service whenever requested.

Sandy-coloured Dekton Danae

The new ventilated façade features 700m2 of 12mm Dekton Danae slabs. In addition to its clean, fresh look, Dekton Danae contrasts with the black window frames and the large glass surfaces.

Dekton Danae is a colour from the Natural collection that is reminiscent of the movement of sand. It is one of Cosentino’s best-sellers as it works perfectly in almost any space. Furthermore, being a neutral colour, it is full of nuances that ensure its versatility and say goodbye to boredom.

In the case of the Westfield Newmarket shopping centre, this effect of movement is the result not only of the richness of the material -Dekton Danae- but also of its clever cutting: all along the façade, in a continuous pattern, one larger row is placed every four rows of slabs.

This feat of design aims to bring the Newmarket in line with the district where it is located: a thriving and trendy shopping area with the best tapas bars, the most alternative art galleries and the most authentic Maori arts and crafts.

Nature as a starting point

Drita means light in Albanian. But a very special light, like the one reflected by the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea and the creamy colour of Albania’s sandy beaches. Drita Kafè is a small café which recreates an atmosphere of idyllic nature and endless summer in Piana degli Albanesi, a small mountain village embedded in Sicily and founded over five centuries ago by Albanians.

History, tradition and modernity come together in this café to offer the typical Sicilian ‘cannoli’, as well as a variety of local pastries and cigars. At Drita Kafè everything is designed to please the senses. And here, the Dekton surface, in its striking Entzo colour, plays a perfect role.

How to expand the possibilities of a reduced space

Dekton Entzo recreates a Calacatta marble that captures the warmth of light; its steamy golden shiny veins give it a unique personality that enriches any interior space. The designer and engineer Giusy Scalia has cleverly used this feature to illuminate and enlarge the small, narrow premises.

The 0.8cm thick Dekton Entzo surface has been used to clad the walls of the table area, continuing down to the floor to give a sense of uniformity that creates two different spaces in this café; a radiant and welcoming space, to enjoy the pastries, and another more intimate one, the service area, where the wood tones have been combined in different intensities.

The ensemble is completed by the tables and bars, also in Dekton Entzo – 2.0cm and 1.2cm thick respectively – which, in addition to offering a very attractive design, provide the owners of the Drita Kafè with non-porous surfaces that are easy to clean and highly resistant to scratches and wear and tear of time, like the spirit and tenacity of the Albanians who founded Piana degli Albanesi.

Love at first sight

Although the White House residential lobby was fully completed in March 2020, the creative process had been brewing in the mind of its designer, Shiri Levy, for many months. It all started during a visit to Cosentino’s headquarters in Almeria. Levy was invited to see the latest product innovations and their countless applications. The designer was so fascinated by Dekton that, as soon as she returned to Israel, she decided to return to Cosentino’s factories in Almeria, but this time accompanied by her site manager. On this second visit, they chose the finishes and quantities needed for the execution of the project.

As it could not be otherwise, two different shades of white were used in the White House: Dekton Aura, with strong grey veining and featuring a fold out design; and Dekton Zenith, a solid Nordic white, with no veining or texture. Classicism and modernity go hand in hand to create an elegant and imposing lobby.

In this way, the designer succeeded in responding to the project brief: to create an impressive and timeless space that combines innovation and elegance.

White Residential Lobby - White House5 Nimrod Levy 297

Inspired by Italian Carrara marble

Planning the White House lobby was not without its complications. Levy specifically refers to the difficulty in coordinating the different systems that are mandatory in public spaces, as well as the cutting of the slabs into triangular shapes. This required a series of technical simulations in collaboration with the Cosentino team in Spain to reduce material waste.

Beyond the technical challenges, the designer speaks enthusiastically about her source of inspiration. For Levy, the Italian region of Tuscany and Carrara marble represent the pinnacle of elegance and good taste, both of which are present in this lobby. Dekton allows the design of large-scale public spaces, achieving that complex balance between functionality and beauty.

A home to enjoy what matters most

The avant-garde ultra-compact surface Dekton has been specified as the façade of a multi award-winning residential build in the heart of London. Two 23-storey tower blocks in Greenwich, the Union Wharf Creekside Buildings have created 249 homes to rent in south London. One of the tallest modular buildings in the UK, the project was the first in the country to cater solely and specifically for families, with buggy storage, acoustic noise insulation and an on-site nursery for parents with young children.

Involved from inception to completion, Cosentino worked closely with architects Assael and HTA over five years to help deliver the best design and finish. 3,000m2 of Dekton was specified for both towers in the Union Wharf development, adorning the top penthouse level and down two sides of both buildings. Developers, Essential Living, utilised Dekton in a large redevelopment project, Vantage Point Archway Tower back in 2017, making this an easy decision for subsequent projects.

Dekton facades, sustainable and designed to last

With high rise façades being one of the key news topics in the UK, the imitable benefits of Cosentino’s Dekton material, including safety, sustainability and energy efficiency, are all paramount considerations, especially within living quarters. Boasting LEED and BREEAM certifications in environmental and sustainable design, as well as the highest classification in terms of fire resistance: A2 s0 d1 for 12 mm, Dekton’s durability, ease of installation, consistency in colour and thickness as well as high scratch resistance and low porosity makes it the ideal surface for façades.

Dekton also offers high resistance to ultraviolet rays, frost and thawing, as well as colour stability and high stain resistance, which results in it being an ideal material for use on exterior ventilated façades. Cosentino’s National Façade Manager, Simon Hope comments “This project demonstrates both a practical and aesthetically pleasing façade, which integrates with the window layout while complementing the innovative location. The result is a striking finish utilising a product that benefits from strong eco credentials and cutting-edge technology – all helping to meet the client’s brief.”

In addition, carbon neutrality has been achieved for the entire life cycle of Dekton, from the extraction of the raw material and the calculation of the direct and indirect emissions from its production cycle (and those derived from its use), to the end of the product’s life. This milestone is a result of the strong measures taken by Cosentino to achieve greater efficiency in terms of energy, consumption of resources, use of renewable electricity and sustainable mobility policies.

Dekton, insulation, aesthetics and durability for facades

The Zeeduin renovation project is situated on the corner of Franslaan with Lefebvrestraat in Nieuwpoort. After a few decades, the façades – covered with relatively thin prefab silex concrete elements – showed concrete damage due to carbonation. The client and architect opted for a total renovation for the façades, with 4 mm thick Dekton Slim plates by Cosentino, glued on a ventilated aluminium support structure.

The apartment building dates back to the 1970s and has 6 above-ground floors. The gallery terraces, made of in situ concrete with the floor slab running from the inside to the outside without thermal interruption, were fitted with a mortar-bed tiling. Water penetration caused concrete damage and general degradation of the concrete coating. The absence of façade and roof insulation also contributed to a total renovation.

Dekton Slim, 4mm full of possibilities

A light façade cladding had to give the building a new, sleek and contemporary zest. This resulted in the choice of Dekton Slim plates (with a thickness of 4 mm), glued to an aluminium carrier. “This way the façade could be insulated to a maximum without bringing the façade surface too far forward,” according to the architectural engineer Ignace Deconinck of the eponymous Architecten Expertisebureau from Veurne.

A small balcony construction with a walking zone was provided for the apartments on the façade corner – with in the original condition only a balustrade in the façade surface. Not evident from a technical point of view. Good coordination (including dimensions and planning) between the main contractor (Aquastra), the balustrades subcontractor (Aluform) and the façade cladding subcontractor (Murex Stone) was required. After concrete repair, the gallery terraces were fitted with a new reinforced terrace compaction system and glass balustrades with front mounting of the uprights.

Nayla, an off-white full of nuances

The architect opted for a dark-coloured base (the ground floor) and a light superstructure to give the floors a more floating effect. “For the ground floor, we opted for a coating in fired blue bluestone, a good match with the small grey speckles, the white mass of the Nayla type and the terrace floors in a grey tone,” says Deconinck about the choice for the Dekton colour “Nayla” (white speckled).

“Thanks to its properties, Dekton delivers high-quality, technical performance compared to other existing surfaces: highly scratch-resistant, frost-resistant and thaw-resistant, and resistant to salty air and UV rays. Colour stability, dimensional stability and pressure resistance are high. With a fire reaction class A2, s1-d0, Dekton can even be used for tall buildings,” says Stephanie Bevernagie of Cosentino.

The designers turned this challenging, irregular shape into an opportunity to present a dynamic configuration with moving benches and workstations that can be easily adjusted according to the users’ needs.

Design curves created to endure

The concept of CulinaryOn’s interior design likens culinary journey to a theatrical performance. Thus, the space is designed like a stage and Cosentino is featured front and centre in this culinary stage.

The space is divided into three studios, which are separated from one another by operable panels that can be folded away to merge the spaces as needed. Each studio is anchored by a U-shaped chef’s table with a cooking station at its centre, featuring sleek black Dekton Domoos and Dekton Sirius.

Several movable cooking stations are set around these chef’s table. Each station features cranberry red base paired with Dekton Korus worktop, presenting a smooth, solid grey surface with white veins perfect for culinary experiments.

A curvy bar unites the three studios. Clad in brushed copper and solid teal colour, the bar is finished with Silestone Desert Silver.

“The surface selection reinforces the concepts of creating a seamless look, a complementary colour scheme; and a subtle, refined and luxe feel with the matte surfaces”

An immersive experience in every sense

Designed by Wilson Associates, Haidilao’s newest outlet at Marina Square mall presents an exceptionally futuristic dining experience with a personalised menu, immersive dining experience with sound and light projection, and robot servers, on top of its signature services.

The restaurant’s theatrical dining experience requires a sound design built with high quality, durable material, hence the designer’s choice to use Dekton and Silestone in its busiest areas. The interior design incorporates no less than 180 slabs of Dekton Soke and 10 slabs of Silestone Desert Silver, with a total of 806 sqm and 50 sqm of surfaces, respectively.

A beauty salon that earns its name

A great dining experience is an alchemy of great food, great service and great ambience. In the age of information and disruption, customers are spoilt for choice. F&B establishments need to constantly reinvent their offerings – menu, interior design, dining promotions – to keep diners coming back for more. They need to sustain diners’ interest with fresh experiences that cannot be found elsewhere.

Haidilao understands this. Going above and beyond impeccable customer service, the restaurant chain’s answer to providing and unforgettable dining experience includes services like manicure in a beauty room while diners wait for their tables. Silestone Desert Silver is chosen for the vanity tops in the beauty room for its modern look and durability.
