A refurbishment inspired by fashion

A fashion landmark and meeting point in the city of Tel Aviv, the Ramat Aviv Mall offers a unique shopping experience with a wide range of shops, restaurants and cultural activities. Inside, there are shops of major fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton, Carolina Herrera or Rolex, which attract large numbers of shoppers every day. Faced with the need to refurbish the floor of the common areas, MYS Architects had the challenge of not altering their special character and, at the same time, minimising the impact on traffic, as the works had to be carried out while regular activity was taking place.

Its original design – created by the same studio and inspired by Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II in Milan – has been fully preserved in the renovation. The sophisticated atmosphere that contextualises the world of fashion and haute couture has been maintained through the use of natural materials in warm tones, such as wood, brass and Dekton, which reproduces the texture and colour of stone.

Classic design with contemporary materials

Among the various architectural elements of the shopping mall are the corridors with curved false ceilings, which provide a geometrical balance. The floor tiles were replaced by large slabs of Dekton Gada, a very natural colour inspired by quartzite, which adds a very elegant touch to the spaces. Domoos graphite black details finish off this refined and sober look. ‘Between the Dekton slabs we integrated brass trims and in the squares we created a special geometric pattern defining the meeting point of the space,’ explains Zehavit Simovitch Liberman, architect at MYS Architects.

Technical advantages

‘In technical terms, the 8 mm Dekton slabs in 144 x 320 cm format were a good solution for a quick glue application on the existing floor,’ says the architect, adding that this made it possible to speed up the work during night-time construction works. ‘The thickness of the Dekton slab, combined with its strength, allowed us to make minimal adaptations between the shops and the public spaces,’ she concludes.

The new skin of the TQ InvestPro building in Girona

In the heart of the city of Girona, the new skin of the TQ InvestPro real estate company’s building transforms the skyline with contemporary touches thanks to its clean design with horizontal lines. Designed by the Arquitecturia studio, the building has a revamped façade that has been clad with Dekton, as well as the outdoor terrace flooring.

The design features large windows that open and close like a book and are concealed when closed, leaving the façade completely opaque and clean in terms of visual appearance.

The ideal material

The choice of Dekton for this ventilated façade was a great technical solution to solve this architectural challenge. The surface proved to be the ideal material after several tests for this type of window with the blacksmith, in addition to ‘the unbeatable conditions we were offered and the excellent treatment and service throughout the process’, the studio explains. The technical properties of this material, which is resistant to temperature changes and stains, make Dekton an optimal surface for outdoor use. Another added value is the aesthetics of the chosen colours, which give a modern and contemporary look. Inspired by the classic cement floors, with a calm movement, Dekton Kreta brings a seamless design in matt texture and grey colour.

An efficient system

The ventilated façade has a Keil system, which conceals the anchors and provides thermal protection, favouring energy saving and, above all, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly building. A construction solution that fits perfectly with Dekton thanks to its lightness and thickness. The result is a simple but efficient and aesthetically powerful construction option.

Spaces that show off

The Madre Vieja country house is a stunning place located in Guadalajara (Spain) that has everything you can imagine to enjoy a few days of rest and connect with nature. Without a doubt, this house is unique, both inside and out.

The owners of the Madre Vieja estate chose Diego Rodríguez and his team at Concepto DR to carry out this great challenge: to create an architectural and interior design project that would impress any guest and would be welcoming, warm and stylish. A carefully selected decor which suits any atmosphere and type of home in which it is used, and results in various spaces beautifully designed and full of character.

The owners’ aim was to convert it into a second home for weekends and holidays, and to enjoy one of their great hobbies, hunting. To this end, they have set aside part of the property for this purpose and equipped it to accommodate friends and family who are also fond of hunting.

The exterior of the property is elegant and stately, yet retains the essence of an old, traditional country house. The first thing you come across is the Campaspero entrance floor by Scalea, Cosentino’s natural stone collection. This entrance meets all expectations in terms of architecture, design and decoration while impressing guests.

Rural interior design with innovative surfaces

The common dining room, for gathering before and after a day in the countryside, has a great ally in terms of resistance and aesthetics: Dekton, in its colours Vera and Edora, is used for the table tops, and forms part of all the characteristic features that make up this room. The high ceilings with wooden beams and modern-style lamps, together with the walls decorated in keeping with the surroundings and context, make for a very special and unique interior style.

The living room is very spacious and consists of several rooms separated from each other by the furniture. And this area is dominated by a large dining table around which large windows let in light.

Both spaces have been designed with an avant-garde and sophisticated style, adding more rustic touches, such as wooden floors, ceilings and doors, which provide a fantastic sense of warmth.

On the other hand, the living room is a little smaller and cosier. Here, more natural-looking elements have been used, including organic fabrics for the sofa, cushions and rug, as well as wood, which can be found in different applications, from floors and stairs to various tables, each with a distinct style. This room leads, via a spiral staircase, to a small classic style library that surrounds it at the top, leaving the central area of both spaces free.

Protected natural stone for selected spaces

The bathrooms stand out for the visual continuity in the application of their materials, which creates spaces of great beauty, turning such an intimate and necessarily comfortable room of the home into the centre of attention it deserves.

Both bathrooms are clad with Sensa Natural Stone, one with Taj Mahal quartzite and the other with Black Beauty granite. Designs with contrasting tones, but with a beauty and resistance to all types of stains.

Quality and versatility: the key to materials

When designer Mauricio Gutiérrez of Design Influence undertook this home renovation project in Illinois (USA), it was clear to him that he needed quality materials that were aesthetically powerful and durable. Gutiérrez had collaborated with Cosentino in the past and was familiar with the wide range of materials and applications, and knew that they not only allowed him to bring his creative vision to life, but also to offer solutions for every room in the house.

For more than a year, the Cosentino team worked hand in hand with the designer and fitter to bring this impressive project to life. A house that never ceases to amaze in which materials have been used in a very innovative way. The result is a true testament to the versatility and ability of Cosentino materials to translate the ideas of the plan into reality.

An elegant and functional kitchen

The elegance of the world’s finest white marble can be found in the kitchen thanks to Dekton Rem. In this space, the floors, worktops, splashbacks and dining table show the beauty of this colour with brown and grey veins and hints of gold on an off-white background. Its tones blend perfectly with the dark units and black fittings and interact with the contemporary-style golden chandelier suspended above the worktop. In addition to its stylish appearance, Dekton provides technical properties that make this kitchen both functional and durable. Due to its high resistance to heat, scratches and stains, it is the perfect solution for these work and dining areas.

Well-being and relaxation in the bathroom

Finally, in the bathroom, the designer wanted to give a harmonious look by using the same material in several applications. He decided on Sensa Gabana in Leather finish, a unique granite that is used for the bathroom countertop, the inner and outer walls of the shower, the washbasin and a bench. This natural grey stone with fine white veining creates a relaxing atmosphere and transforms the bathroom into a real spa.

Common spaces full of design in North Carolina

Among the 250 companies housed on the 2,800-hectare Research Triangle Park corporate campus in North Carolina, a recent project stands out for its innovative use of design to create a space for collaboration, creativity and interaction. Elisa Christopher, from Phillips Architecture design studio, was commissioned for this project in which the company wanted to give a new look to a lobby and staircase area using Dekton by Cosentino.

The client wanted a material that would surprise potential and existing employees and create a striking appearance at first glance. The designer had already worked with Cosentino in the past and thought that it would be the ideal material to add character and elegance to the space. At Cosentino’s industrial park in Almería, Christopher was able to see the product first hand and discover the endless design possibilities that Dekton has to offer. Taking advantage of its technical and aesthetic properties on such a large campus was a challenge for her and she jumped at the chance.

Balanced contemporary aesthetics

The colour selected for this project was Soke, inspired by classic cement floors with realistic veining on a nuanced grey background. The advantage of this material is mainly that, in addition to providing a contemporary aesthetics with a concrete look and feel, it is virtually maintenance free and offers great versatility for different applications. In the case of this project, it was used for interior cladding, the lift surrounds and the main staircase. In the last two applications, it featured a modern lighting design around it.

The final look creates a lot of visual harmony and brings consistency to the design concept. Soke’s simple colour is perfect when combined with other features such as, in this case, the geometric patterned rug and the wood and metal details.

An award-winning refurbishment of a legendary hotel in Gran Canaria

The ‘Premio Nacional Macael’ (Spanish Macael National Prize) has been awarded this year by the Fundación Marca Macael (Marca Macael Foundation) to the recently refurbished Lopesan Costa Meloneras Hotel, in recognition of the architectural and aesthetic value of the comprehensive refurbishment carried out in this iconic four-star Resort & Spa located in Las Palmas. In this refurbishment project, undertaken by Juan Francisco García and the Lopesan Hotel Group’s own design department, more than 7,000 square metres of marble, granite and ultra-compact Dekton surface have been fitted.

The project stands out for its large scale and its integration into the landscape and the context in which it is located, one of the most exclusive tourist areas on the island of Gran Canaria. Surrounded by the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve and next to its emblematic Boulevard, the Lopesan Costa Meloneras Hotel is updated paying homage to its own history. Opened 20 years ago, with 1,136 rooms, 2,700 beds and more than 70,000 m2 of outdoor areas, it has become one of the largest hotels in Spain.

Multiple colours, textures and applications

The refurbishment has added a contemporary and innovative style to many areas of the hotel, from the gardens, swimming pools, restaurants and exteriors to the rooms and common areas. Crema Marfil marble, Negro Marquina and Negro Eclipse have been used to clad the columns, the floors of the reception area and the bathrooms in the rooms, bringing great elegance and sophistication to these areas. Meanwhile, Negro Zimbawe and Negro Tezal granites have been chosen for the floors and steps. And Dekton Zenith, Domoos, Opera, Kelya, Sirius and Orix have been used for worktops, bathroom and bathtub cladding, buffets, table tops, countertops in bathroom and common areas, and stools in the pool area.

The benefits of stone combined with Dekton surface

The strength and hardness of the natural stone used in this project blends with the various applications of Cosentino’s Dekton surface, providing a number of other technical advantages. In particular, Dekton has been used for applications such as worktops or even outdoor stools, taking advantage of its high resistance to stains, scratches and temperature changes. This, together with its easy maintenance and cleaning, makes it the perfect material for the most used areas in a hotel, guaranteeing an ‘as new’ appearance over time.

Natural shapes and light colours in this house in Brazil

Luxury and sophistication suit the tastes of the owners of this house in Florianópolis, Brazil, designed by Ana Paula Ronchi Arquitetura. In this house, natural lines and a range of neutral and light tones create functional and versatile spaces in which customised pieces designed by the architecture studio itself have been added.

Dekton Arga was used for this project, not only for its beauty but also for its technical properties. ‘We chose Cosentino materials for their strength and sophistication, as well as for their perfect integration with the range of colours designed for this project,’ the studio explains.

A durable and practical material

Dekton gives continuity to the design by fitting into the different features and spaces of the house. The Arga colour, inspired by the Taj Mahal quartzite, achieves the luxurious shine of natural stone. This material shows fine light-coloured veins, ranging from light brown to golden. A high-gloss finish with a strong visual impact that is both hard-wearing and practical. As a common theme in the design concept of this house, it is used to clad the kitchen worktops, the fireplace, the barbecue, the Home TV and the bathroom washbasin.

The new Government Pavilion, the Auditorium and the open spaces designed by architects Roberto Ercilla, Rubén A. Alcolea and Jorge Tárrago of alcolea+tárrago arquitectos illustrate the possibilities of using marble for flooring, ventilated façades, ceilings, staircases, claddings and benches.

Scale, design, sustainability and functionality are the main strengths of these new buildings in terms of architectural value. The Prize also recognises the benchmark value for the use and benefits of this natural stone, which is the star of the whole design, as well as the successful combination between the structural elements and the landscaping project on the Louis Pasteur Boulevard outside.

Simple and sustainable architecture

The simple geometric forms that make up the architectural design of the Government Pavilion and the Auditorium give centre stage to two cloister style central courtyards. The almost exclusive use of marble as the only material throughout the design gives the spaces an elegant, classic and simple style. Macael marble also brings added value in terms of sustainability, one of the key aspects of the design.

In terms of structure, both the Government Pavilion and the Auditorium are made of reinforced concrete and feature a ventilated façade with external rock wool insulation, which reduces energy consumption and improves comfort indoors. Another highlight of the project is the glazing of the façades, which features low thermal transmittance double glazing that allow plenty of natural light to pass through, thus optimising energy consumption.

Geometry and functionality

The complex comprises two large volumes of simple lines in Macael marble and outdoor spaces including a garden, a car park and an outdoor garden. A number of administrative spaces have been created inside the Government Pavilion. To this end, the perimeter of the pavilion is used as a service area and the rest as open and flexible work areas, depending on the needs.

Similarly, the Auditorium houses a series of lobbies surrounding the main hall. Both buildings are connected by a space sheltered by a pergola and paved with Macael marble, from Scalea by Cosentino. The function room of the Auditorium, with a capacity of 795 people, will host institutional events of a social, cultural and business nature.

Landscaping and energy efficiency

The outdoor landscaping project features species native to the area to optimise water resources and promote soil recovery, thus contributing to making this new space a sustainable achievement for the University of Málaga. The project also includes a photovoltaic plant with 250 panels, chargers for electric vehicles, a smart lighting system, a grey water recycling system and a rainwater collection and storage system.

A demanding interior design

The interior designers of this home, located in a popular residential area on the outskirts of Madrid, faced a double challenge: on the one hand, they had to connect and give structural coherence to two independent semi-detached houses, transforming them into a single large family house with fewer but more spacious rooms; on the other hand, they had to bring new life to the interior appearance of the construction, creating an urban atmosphere inspired by New York lofts, something more in keeping with the needs of the owners, a young couple with several children and international tastes.

To do so, the space was redistributed allowing for a large open-plan floor of 100 m2 with part of its ceilings at double height. The staircase leading to the basement and the first floor was placed in the centre of the new room, which houses the living room, the dining room, a work area, the kitchen, a toilet and some additional relaxing and reading areas. Made from iron, wood and glass, it acts as an almost sculptural element that visually connects the various areas and, at the same time, helps to create different atmospheres depending on its use.

An industrial yet warm look dominates the décor, combining fine wood with natural finishes, brass, velvet, exposed brick and large-format floors reminiscent of concrete with metal accents, but with better technical performance in terms of resistance. The owners wanted an ‘all-terrain’ flooring solution that could withstand a lively social life (that would not get stained by a glass of wine, for example) and the demanding use of children (scratches, knocks, etc.). The interior designers recommended a safe bet, Dekton Nilium.

Nilium, the winning bet

Nilium, from Dekton’s Industrial series, is an ultra-compact colour inspired by a silver metal, with a subtle mix of white and grey shades that represents the beginning of the oxidation process of a material. Despite its delicate appearance, it has the same technical features of any other Dekton surface, such as high resistance to scratches, stains and temperature changes, which is particularly useful for the installation of underfloor heating.

When it comes to Dekton, thermal conductivity is better than with traditional products used with underfloor heating such as wood or linoleum, allowing for better heat transfer. Unlike these materials, the expansion is smaller and dimensional stability facilitates a perfect assembly, leaving a joint of only 2 mm, whatever the format used. This enhances the sense of visual continuity.

A very bright work area

For the kitchen, which has a strong visual connection to the exterior, they opted for a bright white, thus maximising natural light. For both the worktops of the wall unit and the island, they chose Blanco Zeus, an almost pure, energetic and timeless white from Silestone’s Mythology series. The same colour is used for the walls and the column in the window area, giving a cleaner and more unified look. The same goes for the shower in the guest bathroom.

Dekton and Scalea, the best allies

Both the perimeter wall of the garden and its paving and stairs were clad with a unique texture, a natural travertine from Scalea by Cosentino, Trav Romano. This stone, commonly used in the monuments of Ancient Rome, provides strength and elegance with a timeless finish that stands the test of time.

The elegant tones of this material continue in the swimming pool, but with a finish that is more resistant to the impact of water and the chemicals required for maintenance. In this space, Las 5 Glorias studio opted for Dekton Danae. Its large format reduces the number of joints, preventing the proliferation of bacteria and microorganisms. Furthermore, Dekton colours remain unaffected by exposure to sunlight and can be treated with Grip+ technology, which prevents slipping without compromising an aesthetically pleasing finish.

Richness of materials and textures

This 400 square metre home in Ankara, Turkey, features an exotic combination of textures and materials with lots of customisation. Designed by Damla Eryilmaz Ersoy of the E&E Mimarlik studio, the house reflects the traditional local style in combination with contemporary elements and quality materials. The result is a unique setting where the play of chiaroscuro and the richness of colour stand out.

Among the materials used in the project, Dekton by Cosentino stands out. A variety of Dekton colours have been used in multiple applications throughout the house. “The reason we wanted to use Dekton throughout the house is because of its durability and functionality”, explains the studio. “Creating solutions with a durable material for a family home was our starting point”, they underline.

Stunning floors

The kitchens in this home feature a variety of Dekton applications in different colours. On the one hand, Khalo was the colour chosen for the flooring in one of the kitchens. Inspired by Patagonia natural stone, Khalo was also used in the hallway, where it is combined with solid parquet. Thus, the cool colour of the stone and the warm effect of the wood blend together. “As our client was more of a classic style, we opted to use Dekton to create the illusion of a floating floor with a natural stone effect”, says the architect. Thanks to its polished finish, achieved through Dekton XGloss technology, Khalo features a spectacular shine that enhances its colourful chromatic structure. Intense blacks, subtle golds and tan browns give the different spaces a striking design.

Luxury bathrooms

In addition to using Liquid Sky and Laurent in a number of common areas, Aura 15, Galema and Domoos were used for the kitchen and bathroom worktops. Inspired by Calacatta and Carrara marbles, Aura 15, a unique shade with a natural veining, was used to clad the floor, walls and shower in one of the bathrooms. Galema, a green shade with brown veins, adds elegance and sophistication, while the elegant graphite black tone of Dekton Domoos has been used on the kitchen worktop, enhancing the contrasts in this room.

Custom worktops and furniture

Dekton’s versatility was also key when it came to using the material in the furniture. For example, Dekton Laurent, an elegant colour inspired by Port Laurent natural stone, was used for the TV unit, thus adding an interesting play of contrasts thanks to its golden veins against a dark background.
