LC710
Taller Héctor Barroso
Mexico city
Located in a residential area of Mexico City, the LC710 building rises on a rectangular lot stretching in an east-to-west direction. This is essential to the design of the complex, prompting its division into three volumes separated by interior courtyards.

Architecture firm Taller Héctor Barroso places the housing project’s communal areas in the part of the site that is closest to the building’s street front, while the more private zones are pushed inward. The circulation cores are laid out along the north side to minimize shadows forming in the exterior spaces.

The east and west facades of each volume face courtyards, the east ones with large windows and the west ones with small openings. Both fenestration types are determined not only by the directions they face but also by the nature of the interior spaces behind them.

The project seeks to give each and every apartment an outdoor area of its own, a prolongation of its inner realm, and this is why the dwellings have different heights and are connected vertically by stairs that show themselves towards the courtyards.

Interest in materials that require little maintenance and withstand the test of time is essential to Héctor Barroso’s practice, hence the exposed concrete with color pigments and lattices of natural steel. “Using it does not only exalt its structural properties, but also makes it possible to create different atmospheres and chiaroscuros through its sensory qualities.”
