The Chinese architecture studio Design and Architecture (DnA) has completed this factory where a metal frame of changing section accommodates a collective of families that recover a traditional trade in a pedagogical way. The facilities include spaces where the locals can learn about the different phases in the production of brown sugar, a product that had been set aside over the last decades in favor of tea production. The main space, a vast warehouse with large spans covered by a gabled metallic structure, becomes at the same time a stage were workers dressed in yellow uniforms move with care and precision in the steam that emanates from the kitchen’s containers. All this in the context of an artificial landscape of farmlands that restore Xing Village to its original appearance.
