A restaurant with an open and seamless design in Tel Aviv

The design of the new Grill Bar in Tel Aviv was a great challenge for interior designer Racheli Ben Avi. The aim was to create a seamless space that would offer clients a sensory experience through its atmosphere. “The biggest challenge of the project was planning the restaurant space. The idea was to create an open space that would encourage a natural and dynamic flow, allowing visual connection between the different parts of the space”, explains the designer. In addition to this, the combination of several different styles posed the challenge of maintaining a well-balanced and refined design.

“The eclectic style was achieved by integrating industrial materials, an exposed black painted ceiling, bronze light fixtures, a wine display cabinet, green plants and a brightly coloured pop art piece in the cladding”, she explains. To merge all these different elements, Racheli Ben Avi opted for Cosentino materials. The entire restaurant is clad in Dekton, including the bar counter, walls, cabinets and floor.

Inspired by nature

“My inspiration for the planning and design of the restaurant was nature itself. Its colours and intensity were my starting point”, says Racheli Ben Avi. The textures of Dekton gave the project that natural touch. Dekton Laos was used for the bar top. Its dark matt shades together with its weathered look reinterpret industrial design. This colour was combined with the luxuriant Dekton Trilium for a contemporary design. Inspired by volcanic stones, the colour mix of Trilium adds touches of deep grey and black shades. Bromo, a dark grey colour with a natural texture, has been used on the floor, thus rounding off the design.

Designed to last

“The planning and design of the project started with the selection of materials”, says the designer. Since it is a restaurant, it was important that all materials were durable, something that the Dekton colours chosen for the project guarantee. Without compromising on design and beauty, Racheli Ben Avi opted for Dekton’s technical properties to ensure durability. In addition to its resistance to stains and scratches, it is a very easy to clean surface, hygienic and perfect for food contact, thus meeting all the requirements of a catering establishment such as this one.

Visual richness

“From my perspective as a designer, my concept focuses on originality and visual richness. These are the hallmarks of the space that I have designed to offer a unique atmosphere to clients who come to enjoy both the place and the wonderful dishes served”, the designer points out.

The new look of the Meliá Hotel in Milan

After the complete redesign of several areas, including the lobby, restaurant, meeting rooms and bathrooms, one of the landmark hotels in the Italian city of Milan is sporting a fresh new look. The renovation, carried out jointly by Spanish architect Álvaro Sans and Vittorio Grassi Architects, has given a new look to the Meliá Milano, a hotel located in Via Masaccio, very close to the trendy area known as City Life, the new centre of luxury shopping in the city.

The functional and architectural approach of the renovation project led to the rebirth of this 20-year-old hotel, opening up spaces by creating a new, spacious and flexible layout of the common areas. The interior gardens, high skylights and contemporary use of materials and textures give the bar, restaurant and co-working area a sophisticated feel.

A chic colour

Style and functionality are the main elements of this project in which natural materials such as marble, wood and green shades have been combined with Cosentino surfaces. Specifically, Silestone Eternal Marquina was used for the cladding and countertops of the bathrooms, the alcoves and furniture in the meeting rooms, and the worktops and several tables in the buffet and bar area. “The Suede finish creates a unique feeling of comfort”, says Vittorio Grassi. “Furthermore, its appearance, imitating the veins and nuances of precious exotic marbles, fits well with the Spanish marbles in the common areas and the style of Vescom’s fire retardant curtain fabrics”, he further says.

“Silestone wall claddings, in this case in a glossy finish, allowed us to achieve the style we were looking for but with an ease of maintenance that meets the hygiene standards you would expect in a five star hotel”.

Hygiene standards and easy maintenance

In addition to the Suede finish, polishing has been applied in the bathroom area. “Functionality is a key element of hotel management and, in the case of business accommodation, bathroom areas can get very crowded”, explains the architect. “The Silestone wall claddings in a glossy finish allowed us to achieve the style we were looking for but with an ease of maintenance that meets the hygiene standards you would expect in a five star hotel”, he adds. As a result, the combination of luxury, beauty and technical properties for high traffic areas is perfect.

Spaces that show off

The Madre Vieja country house is a stunning place located in Guadalajara (Spain) that has everything you can imagine to enjoy a few days of rest and connect with nature. Without a doubt, this house is unique, both inside and out.

The owners of the Madre Vieja estate chose Diego Rodríguez and his team at Concepto DR to carry out this great challenge: to create an architectural and interior design project that would impress any guest and would be welcoming, warm and stylish. A carefully selected decor which suits any atmosphere and type of home in which it is used, and results in various spaces beautifully designed and full of character.

The owners’ aim was to convert it into a second home for weekends and holidays, and to enjoy one of their great hobbies, hunting. To this end, they have set aside part of the property for this purpose and equipped it to accommodate friends and family who are also fond of hunting.

The exterior of the property is elegant and stately, yet retains the essence of an old, traditional country house. The first thing you come across is the Campaspero entrance floor by Scalea, Cosentino’s natural stone collection. This entrance meets all expectations in terms of architecture, design and decoration while impressing guests.

Rural interior design with innovative surfaces

The common dining room, for gathering before and after a day in the countryside, has a great ally in terms of resistance and aesthetics: Dekton, in its colours Vera and Edora, is used for the table tops, and forms part of all the characteristic features that make up this room. The high ceilings with wooden beams and modern-style lamps, together with the walls decorated in keeping with the surroundings and context, make for a very special and unique interior style.

The living room is very spacious and consists of several rooms separated from each other by the furniture. And this area is dominated by a large dining table around which large windows let in light.

Both spaces have been designed with an avant-garde and sophisticated style, adding more rustic touches, such as wooden floors, ceilings and doors, which provide a fantastic sense of warmth.

On the other hand, the living room is a little smaller and cosier. Here, more natural-looking elements have been used, including organic fabrics for the sofa, cushions and rug, as well as wood, which can be found in different applications, from floors and stairs to various tables, each with a distinct style. This room leads, via a spiral staircase, to a small classic style library that surrounds it at the top, leaving the central area of both spaces free.

Protected natural stone for selected spaces

The bathrooms stand out for the visual continuity in the application of their materials, which creates spaces of great beauty, turning such an intimate and necessarily comfortable room of the home into the centre of attention it deserves.

Both bathrooms are clad with Sensa Natural Stone, one with Taj Mahal quartzite and the other with Black Beauty granite. Designs with contrasting tones, but with a beauty and resistance to all types of stains.

Quality and versatility: the key to materials

When designer Mauricio Gutiérrez of Design Influence undertook this home renovation project in Illinois (USA), it was clear to him that he needed quality materials that were aesthetically powerful and durable. Gutiérrez had collaborated with Cosentino in the past and was familiar with the wide range of materials and applications, and knew that they not only allowed him to bring his creative vision to life, but also to offer solutions for every room in the house.

For more than a year, the Cosentino team worked hand in hand with the designer and fitter to bring this impressive project to life. A house that never ceases to amaze in which materials have been used in a very innovative way. The result is a true testament to the versatility and ability of Cosentino materials to translate the ideas of the plan into reality.

An elegant and functional kitchen

The elegance of the world’s finest white marble can be found in the kitchen thanks to Dekton Rem. In this space, the floors, worktops, splashbacks and dining table show the beauty of this colour with brown and grey veins and hints of gold on an off-white background. Its tones blend perfectly with the dark units and black fittings and interact with the contemporary-style golden chandelier suspended above the worktop. In addition to its stylish appearance, Dekton provides technical properties that make this kitchen both functional and durable. Due to its high resistance to heat, scratches and stains, it is the perfect solution for these work and dining areas.

Well-being and relaxation in the bathroom

Finally, in the bathroom, the designer wanted to give a harmonious look by using the same material in several applications. He decided on Sensa Gabana in Leather finish, a unique granite that is used for the bathroom countertop, the inner and outer walls of the shower, the washbasin and a bench. This natural grey stone with fine white veining creates a relaxing atmosphere and transforms the bathroom into a real spa.

A home with plenty of light

Natural light is the main feature of this 230 m2 family home located on Calle San Juan de La Salle in Madrid. The Villalón Studio team needed to create functional and versatile spaces that could suit all members of the family, regardless of the occasion or time of day. To this end, the abundance of light entering the house, thanks to its position, has been key to optimising the space to the maximum and making the most of each room.

For the dining room, María Villalón and her team opted for light cream and grey tones, both for the upholstery of the sofas (Tapicerías Ilarcuris) and the rugs as well as for the walls, flooring and furniture, while darker colours were used for the wood in some of the chairs and for a small bar designed to make and serve cocktails, one of the owner’s passions. Furthermore, rattan plays an important role, as it is found in the doors of the auxiliary unit situated in one of the sides, as well as in the screens, designed by Pablo Yubero, which act as mobile separators that can adapt the room and the lighting, depending on the desired intimacy or openness.

A large travertine table has been chosen as the centrepiece. A unique piece that undoubtedly draws all the attention and gives this space a great prominence, due to the exclusivity and originality of natural stone. The result is a welcoming, ever-changing and stylish space in which works of art such as those by the Gärna Art Gallery and Beatriz Aiguabella add a touch of colour.

An island that brightens up the kitchen

In the kitchen, maximum use has been made of the space, with an island designed with Dekton Taga, from the Stonika Collection, which is characterised by its blend with nature and its high-shine colours. Taga is a greyish colour with marble-like crystalline veining inspired by the Taj Mahal quartzite, which features all the advantages of Dekton surfaces, such as high resistance to stains, high temperatures, scratches and impacts.

On the island, made by Mármoles Cuesta, is the hob and sink area, followed by a small wooden kitchen diner next to some chairs, where you can eat with the family, have a drink with guests while cooking or use it for any other purpose.

The same natural and minimalist style has been used for the bedroom and bathroom, with the main focus on natural elements such as wood in tables and seats, and organic fabrics in cushions, headrests or curtains. In addition, the natural light that enters through the large windows is, once again, the best ally of the spaces, helping to bring dynamism and spaciousness to every corner of this home.

A demanding interior design

The interior designers of this home, located in a popular residential area on the outskirts of Madrid, faced a double challenge: on the one hand, they had to connect and give structural coherence to two independent semi-detached houses, transforming them into a single large family house with fewer but more spacious rooms; on the other hand, they had to bring new life to the interior appearance of the construction, creating an urban atmosphere inspired by New York lofts, something more in keeping with the needs of the owners, a young couple with several children and international tastes.

To do so, the space was redistributed allowing for a large open-plan floor of 100 m2 with part of its ceilings at double height. The staircase leading to the basement and the first floor was placed in the centre of the new room, which houses the living room, the dining room, a work area, the kitchen, a toilet and some additional relaxing and reading areas. Made from iron, wood and glass, it acts as an almost sculptural element that visually connects the various areas and, at the same time, helps to create different atmospheres depending on its use.

An industrial yet warm look dominates the décor, combining fine wood with natural finishes, brass, velvet, exposed brick and large-format floors reminiscent of concrete with metal accents, but with better technical performance in terms of resistance. The owners wanted an ‘all-terrain’ flooring solution that could withstand a lively social life (that would not get stained by a glass of wine, for example) and the demanding use of children (scratches, knocks, etc.). The interior designers recommended a safe bet, Dekton Nilium.

Nilium, the winning bet

Nilium, from Dekton’s Industrial series, is an ultra-compact colour inspired by a silver metal, with a subtle mix of white and grey shades that represents the beginning of the oxidation process of a material. Despite its delicate appearance, it has the same technical features of any other Dekton surface, such as high resistance to scratches, stains and temperature changes, which is particularly useful for the installation of underfloor heating.

When it comes to Dekton, thermal conductivity is better than with traditional products used with underfloor heating such as wood or linoleum, allowing for better heat transfer. Unlike these materials, the expansion is smaller and dimensional stability facilitates a perfect assembly, leaving a joint of only 2 mm, whatever the format used. This enhances the sense of visual continuity.

A very bright work area

For the kitchen, which has a strong visual connection to the exterior, they opted for a bright white, thus maximising natural light. For both the worktops of the wall unit and the island, they chose Blanco Zeus, an almost pure, energetic and timeless white from Silestone’s Mythology series. The same colour is used for the walls and the column in the window area, giving a cleaner and more unified look. The same goes for the shower in the guest bathroom.

Dekton and Scalea, the best allies

Both the perimeter wall of the garden and its paving and stairs were clad with a unique texture, a natural travertine from Scalea by Cosentino, Trav Romano. This stone, commonly used in the monuments of Ancient Rome, provides strength and elegance with a timeless finish that stands the test of time.

The elegant tones of this material continue in the swimming pool, but with a finish that is more resistant to the impact of water and the chemicals required for maintenance. In this space, Las 5 Glorias studio opted for Dekton Danae. Its large format reduces the number of joints, preventing the proliferation of bacteria and microorganisms. Furthermore, Dekton colours remain unaffected by exposure to sunlight and can be treated with Grip+ technology, which prevents slipping without compromising an aesthetically pleasing finish.

The new Noli Studios hotel combines functionality and dynamism

Aimed at young people and professionals with a dynamic lifestyle and a travelling soul, the new Noli Studios hotel opens its doors with a very flexible concept of short and long term accommodation. This is the third hotel of its kind opened by NREP, a Nordic real estate development and investment company. Located in Myyrmäki, on the outskirts of Helsinki (Finland), the hotel offers common areas, affordable prices and an atmosphere as comfortable as that of a hotel and as relaxed and intimate as that of an apartment.

The eight storey building features 322 contemporary style studios and over 1,000 m2 of common areas, including a gym, sauna, bicycle parking and a variety of spaces for relaxation and work. Functionality and minimalism are key to both the architectural design by Avarrus Architects Ltd and the interior design by dSign Vertti Kivi & Co.

Versatile spaces for sharing

The studios range from 19 to 38 m2, with different options in terms of furniture and prices. Some are designed for single people looking for socialising, while others, with several rooms, are perfect for families or teleworkers. In terms of furnishings, it is possible to book fully furnished studios (including kitchenware, for example), part-furnished or with no furnishings at all. All of them have their own kitchen, equipped with worktops in Silestone Calypso.

Plenty of common areas

“Like our other hotels, Noli Studios Myyrmäki offers guests affordable, highly flexible accommodations, with a sense of community and excellent transport connections”, says Natalia Schrey, Commercial Director at Noli Studios. This concept is also developed in the common areas. Lounges with cosy sofas, conference rooms and a fully equipped communal kitchen for socialising.

Attention to detail

Silestone is perfectly integrated into the contemporary and minimalist design of the hotel. The depth of Silestone Calypso suits its open, flexible designs perfectly, bringing contrast and warmth to bright spaces. Thanks to its technical features, it is perfect for kitchen worktops. Silestone’s high resistance to scratches and impacts makes it the ideal material for high use worktops, like those in these studios.

A successful concept

The formula for success of this hotel chain also lies in setting prices similar to standard rentals in the area for long stays. “The new concept has been very well received by customers. Our goal is to open ten new hotels in the region over the next five years and we are actively looking for new properties and suitable locations”, says Natalia.

A company kitchen full of character

This US company’s aim was to create unique and timeless common and kitchen areas at its North Carolina headquarters. Both the client and the architecture studio in charge of the project, Gensler, were looking for a material that would be aesthetically powerful and at the same time stand the test of time, bearing in mind that these are areas of heavy traffic and daily use.

Both fell in love with Dekton Rem when they saw a sample of it. The architects knew right away that it was the perfect material, but it lacked something to add sophistication. So instead of using Rem in a matt finish, they came up with the idea of a polished finish. Thus Lincoln was born – a new and original colour designed specifically for this project. This was made possible thanks to the features of Dekton iD, a technology that allows for unlimited customisation of Dekton slabs and the creation of unique textures, colours and patterns.

Inspired by marble

This new colour, which enhances Rem’s characteristic brown and grey vein pattern with golden hints, has been used in various areas of the kitchen, as well as in rest areas. More specifically, the worktops, island and bar feature these textures inspired by the elegant white marble, reminiscent of natural Calacatta Lincoln itself. Its shiny, polished finish emphasises its sleek, modern design that blends perfectly with the dark cabinets and stainless steel appliances. As a result, the space gives a sense of calm and timelessness to the common areas of these offices.

The refurbishment that made this historic house in Connecticut contemporary

Built in 1931 by Dr. Richard Spector, this 600 square metre villa was brought back to life after renovation by Burçin Dinler, from Tasarimca Design Office. On a 1.2 hectare site in Connecticut, United States, this renovated mansion has been converted into a welcoming, contemporary and harmonious space.

The refurbishment process of Westport Villa took about a year. The interior design concept of this project has focused on enhancing the brightness of the spaces with a contemporary style based on the use of quality materials. These include Cosentino cladding, which was used for the bathroom and kitchen worktops.

A balanced colour range

All floors in the house are laid with white oak, except for the wet areas, the patios and the multimedia areas in the common area. This, together with the use of white predominantly on the walls and ceilings, makes the rooms look more spacious and enhances the large amount of natural light that the interiors receive through the large windows. In keeping with this range of neutral and light tones, the design team decided to use Silestone for the worktops. In particular, they opted for the Blanco Zeus colour in a polished finish. Its bright but restrained white colour blends perfectly with the modern lines of the interior design of the entire house. This material has been combined with dark furniture on the kitchen island and in one of the bathrooms, creating a very contemporary contrast.

Durable and sustainable

Among the reasons for the decision to use Silestone in this project, the architect highlights ‘its visual aesthetic integrity along with durability and hygiene factors’. The material is ideal for worktops as it is easy to clean and resistant to stains and dirt. ‘As part of this project, which has a modern and contemporary concept, the added value of Cosentino products was of paramount importance,’ he continues. Furthermore, the surfaces are in line with another key feature of the refurbishment project: sustainability. The whole project was intended to maintain a sustainable and integrated concept in the landscape. This also applies to the guesthouse, which was restored to blend in with the main house.

A bright flat combined with dark colours in Turkey

The architectural project for this flat in Turkey, designed by Pinar Çagatay Kizil from Pera Design İç Mimarlik, posed an ambitious challenge. The aim was to link two flats of the Kuzu Effect mixed-use building in Ankara. The result is a 105 square metre area with plenty of light that has been balanced by a design with dark colours.

One of the most striking aspects of the project was the creation of a virtual corridor with mirrors and partitions that allows spaces to flow, all aligned on a single façade. ‘The kitchen is the only area where we could not intervene, since the plumbing work had already been completed. We only enlarged the size of the island a little and gave it continuity by using Dekton Radium for the worktop, which is also found in the entrance and corridors of the house,’ the studio explains.

An aesthetically powerful material

This is how the architecture studio defines Dekton Radium – as a ‘striking and functional’ material. In their own words, it was chosen for cladding, flooring and corridors ‘because it is easy to clean, hygienic and has a great visual effect’. Being a high traffic area it was necessary to add a durable material that would give a consistent look and feel, something that is perfectly achieved with Radium. The rusty steel plate look of this colour also offers an aesthetic that blends perfectly with the ochre and brown used in the interior design of this flat.

A great bedroom

In the bedroom, a very exotic and attractive decorative solution was chosen using Prexury next to the headboard. Like an artistic canvas behind the bedside tables, the Prexury Wild Agate colour makes the space sparkle with its conglomerate of semi-precious stones in shades of turquoise and cream. Especially at night, as the pieces are backlit. ‘It is an incredibly elegant solution. The daytime look is very different from the night-time one, but both are striking. After the client approved the use of this colour, the entire design of the space was shaped around these slabs,’ the design studio explains. The result is a very personal and sophisticated space that receives warm, indirect lighting during rest time.
