Habitatges Sant Pere de Ribes

A multi-family residential building amid traditional architectures of the historical quarter of the Catalonian town of Sant Pere de Ribes.

The scheme of the Barcelona-based firm DATAAE reinterprets local typological elements in a sober compositional language that blends the building with the historical quarter of the town of Sant Pere de Ribes. It proposes an honest and economical construction where two volumes connected by a footbridge provides 20 rental apartments of 60m2 each in three typologies: floor-through apartments of three bedrooms, one-bedroom flats, and two-bedroom duplexes below the roof.

The chosen structural system of loadbearing walls and arches determines the composition of the facades and forms a rhythmically sequenced interior space by alternating linteled windows and external porches with arches, mirroring the intermediate spaces that characterize the historical buildings nearby. This effort to engage in dialogue with the surroundings extends to the finishes, which are executed with uncolored lime mortar, the white referring to the context without renouncing the chromatic depth and variations of the traditional material.
