A design that reflects quality and sustainability

Natural colours and a very contemporary design renew the aesthetics of the new showroom of Salboy, a property development company based in Salford, UK. In this way the project by Studio Power has achieved an image in keeping with the success of this company, which has delivered more than 2,400 homes across the UK and focuses on the development of high quality residential accommodation. Domis Construction helped bring the project to life from conception to construction, while Granite Tops UK was the manufacturer.

The multidisciplinary architecture studio chose Dekton by Cosentino surfaces for this project, not only because of their natural appearance, but also because of their durability and zero carbon footprint throughout their life cycle, thus contributing to an environment focused on sustainability.

Light and a sense of movement

Among the wide range of available designs, the team of architects chose Dekton Danae to bring the spaces to life. This colour, which is part of Dekton Natural Collection, plays with different shades of beige to create a sandy toned surface that reflects light and captures movement. It was supplied in different thicknesses for use as interior cladding, stairs and furniture. The 20 mm thickness was used for the stairs, while 12 mm surfaces were used for the reception counter and 8 mm for the cladding of walls, columns and planters. “Danae was the perfect shade for this project. We were impressed with the versatility of the different thicknesses. Danae can achieve really sharp details, such as in the planters and stairs, and its strength and durability are ideal for this application”, says Sam Power, Director of Studio Power.

A durable material

It is precisely the technical advantages offered by Dekton that make it the perfect material for this type of application in spaces where high traffic is expected and where durability is required. Dekton is highly resistant to scratches, stains, fire and heat. It is therefore perfect for commercial and residential projects involving stair surfaces, cladding, flooring and furniture, which will stay as good as new for a long time.

Minimalist design tables

The first pieces of furniture designed by Laurent Maugoust’s eponymous editor, in collaboration with his artistic director Cécile Chenais, are two sculptural tables with a lot of character and a graphic and dramatic design. Both were presented at the Silvera Saint-Germain showroom in Paris, with an exhibition that allows us to fully appreciate their textures and colours, among which Sensa and Scalea by Cosentino stand out.

With their Mantis table and Naïl coffee table, the creative pair have established a dialogue between materials and shapes which revolves around the geometric character of the design and a spirit that is as demanding as it is refined.

An ideal surface

Sensa Vancouver quartzite and Scalea Verde Guaco marble were the natural stones chosen for the design of these two tables. “Sensa was a great discovery in terms of product, originality and technology. Choosing Vancouver to create this table with such a special, organic and sensual touch is a real success”, explains Cécile Chenais.

Indeed, thanks to the Senguard NK protection, specially developed by Cosentino for the Sensa colour range, the material is exceptionally resistant to stains, aggressive and acidic substances and scratches, while at the same time being easy to maintain on a daily basis, making it an ideal surface. It is also NSF certified, which confirms it as a suitable surface for food contact, with no risk of staining or damage. In this way Sensa combines classic beauty with cutting edge technology, thus maintaining the natural colour of the stone.

Versatile materials

“The interesting thing about Cosentino is that its materials are very versatile. These include natural stones like Sensa, ultracompact and ultra resistant surfaces like Dekton and high tech materials of great aesthetic value like Silestone. They can therefore be used in kitchens as well as for high-end design and the creation of unique objects, which is what we did with this table and coffee table”, explains Laurent Maugoust. “It is very interesting for us to use such high quality products with outstanding technical solutions that can be adapted to different types of projects”, says Cécile Chenais.

A restaurant with an open and seamless design in Tel Aviv

The design of the new Grill Bar in Tel Aviv was a great challenge for interior designer Racheli Ben Avi. The aim was to create a seamless space that would offer clients a sensory experience through its atmosphere. “The biggest challenge of the project was planning the restaurant space. The idea was to create an open space that would encourage a natural and dynamic flow, allowing visual connection between the different parts of the space”, explains the designer. In addition to this, the combination of several different styles posed the challenge of maintaining a well-balanced and refined design.

“The eclectic style was achieved by integrating industrial materials, an exposed black painted ceiling, bronze light fixtures, a wine display cabinet, green plants and a brightly coloured pop art piece in the cladding”, she explains. To merge all these different elements, Racheli Ben Avi opted for Cosentino materials. The entire restaurant is clad in Dekton, including the bar counter, walls, cabinets and floor.

Inspired by nature

“My inspiration for the planning and design of the restaurant was nature itself. Its colours and intensity were my starting point”, says Racheli Ben Avi. The textures of Dekton gave the project that natural touch. Dekton Laos was used for the bar top. Its dark matt shades together with its weathered look reinterpret industrial design. This colour was combined with the luxuriant Dekton Trilium for a contemporary design. Inspired by volcanic stones, the colour mix of Trilium adds touches of deep grey and black shades. Bromo, a dark grey colour with a natural texture, has been used on the floor, thus rounding off the design.

Designed to last

“The planning and design of the project started with the selection of materials”, says the designer. Since it is a restaurant, it was important that all materials were durable, something that the Dekton colours chosen for the project guarantee. Without compromising on design and beauty, Racheli Ben Avi opted for Dekton’s technical properties to ensure durability. In addition to its resistance to stains and scratches, it is a very easy to clean surface, hygienic and perfect for food contact, thus meeting all the requirements of a catering establishment such as this one.

Visual richness

Architect Jean-Philippe Nuel renovates the Hélianthal Thalazur hotel

Located in the seaside town of Saint-Jean-De-Luz, in the heart of the French Basque Country, the Hélianthal Thalazur hotel occupies a historic building recently renovated and reopened on 29 July 2021. Architect Jean-Philippe Nuel was responsible for the renovation of this 30-year-old luxury hotel, which has retained the 1920s architecture and design by Mallet-Stevens while updating the whole.

The areas to be renovated were the spa’s cabins and the restaurant tables. The renovation sought to strike the perfect balance between the historic architecture of this area in the south of France and the ocean inspired materials. In addition to this, the architect chose Cosentino materials for both areas, which not only blend in with the beauty of the surroundings, but also add extra strength and quality.

Technical quality

Jean-Philippe Nuel’s aim was to encourage the use of materials that meet design requirements, but also and above all technical and quality requirements. These requirements included providing as natural a finish as possible, as well as easy maintenance to suit the uses of such premises, while at the same time ensuring greater resistance and a design that blends seamlessly into the space. For this purpose, Silestone was used in the spa’s cabins: Lagoon was chosen for the basins, while Tebas was the colour chosen for the furniture worktops.

Practical and functional beauty

Optimising space through the highest quality and achieving an exclusive and comfortable atmosphere are the challenges when designing the interior of a yacht such as the Emocean by Rosetti Superyachts. In this particular case, the highlight of the design is the large table that has been installed on the deck, made from Dekton large format slabs. The designer needed a versatile, easy to customise, large material to create this functional element and give flexibility to the space. He found the perfect solution in this material from Cosentino.

Specifically, this application has been installed on a wooden structure with metal brackets, allowing the table to be split and extended as required Furthermore, thanks to the 8 mm thick Dekton slabs, the tabletop is very thin and elegant as well as lightweight, a key element in yacht design.

A minimalist touch

The colour chosen was Nilium, from the Industrial series. Inspired by silver metal, Nilium offers a minimalist design with a mix of white and grey shades. A warm colour that is perfect for creating a sense of spaciousness in the available space of the yacht. It is also a durable and easy to maintain material, which makes it ideal for use on boats, as it will always look as good as new. Furthermore, being a non porous material, Dekton is not affected by salt water and the material is also resistant to sun exposure, so its colour will not fade over time.

A lobby that looks like one from a luxury hotel

A first glance at the entrance and reception of the renovated headquarters of the glass distributor Van Noordenne in the Netherlands would not suggest that this is an office complex. It feels more like a luxury hotel, with its elegant design, sophisticated materials and precious interior design. For this new headquarters of Europe’s largest glass wholesaler, the firm has commissioned the interior designer Nathalie van Noordenne, who has put all of her passion and creativity at the service of this mega-project for this family company whose origins date back to 1938.

It was in the 1930s that Jan van Noordenne founded this family business. From a local company, it grew into an international wholesale business specialising in glass. Today, in its new headquarters, every effort has been made to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the company’s offices and restaurant.

Van Noordenne Group - Van Noordenne Groep Jaro van Meerten TAOL 05 261

Exotic beauty at the reception desk

The reception desk is the crown jewel of the lobby. The designer chose Sensa Orinoco to add a warm and stylish touch to this area. The rich, earthy tones of this colour, inspired by wild granite, along with its white, golden and copper veining, bring glimpses of beauty to this space.

A restaurant to match

The company’s restaurant, where Sensa Orinoco has also been used in large 2 cm thick slabs, has been conceived following the same design concept. The centrepiece of this area is the large Sensa Orinoco fireplace – an explosion of beauty when lit and a piece of sculpture when unlit. Furthermore, part of the wall has been clad with the same material. Certainly a high standard for a restaurant where customers, guests and staff can relax and enjoy an exclusive atmosphere.

Unique and inspiring furniture by Jam Kolektyw

Jola Skóra and Anna Olga Chmielewska, founders of the creative studio Jam Kolektyw, have put their expertise in architecture and design into practice with the launch of their own furniture collection. Two table models and a console table make up this collection in which the original Dekton Liquid Sky colour is the main material.

‘We have long been in love with the technique of marbling, in which dyes are applied to create an image that is then transferred to paper. The Cosentino pattern refers to this technique, but comes in an incomparably more durable material. Dekton Liquid Sky stole our hearts from the first moment we saw it,’ the designers explain. ‘We love the fact that it does not pretend to be anything, or to imitate natural stone, but rather is its artistic and original interpretation.’

Liquid Sky furniture by JAM KOLEKTYW - JAM KOLEKTYW WORKPLACE POPUP 06A 293

A very versatile table

The largest piece in the collection is a table almost 2 metres long that floats on a base of white steel legs. The Liquid Sky table top gives this lightweight table a swirling, marbled, cloud-like appearance, thanks to this colour that pays homage to swirling energy and perpetual motion. The designers themselves have used this large table in their studio in the centre of Warsaw for meetings, workshops and presentations.

Combinations for indoors and outdoors

In addition to being an interesting work table, it also fits perfectly in a dining room. As the materials from which it is made are very durable, it can also be used outdoors, such as in a garden or on a terrace. The modern and minimalist style of both the table and the rest of the pieces allows all kinds of combinations with other decorative ideas. The best example is the space chosen by the designers for the presentation, an old house in which original features can be seen and in which the pieces provide a dialogue between shapes, colours and textures.

‘We like Dekton for its sophistication and functionality. We are looking for this type of solution, a good balance between aesthetics and ease of use.’

Coffee tables and console tables

Two coffee tables with a very subtle, lightweight metal frame and a small console table in the same style round off this furniture collection. Their shape was designed with complete creative freedom, so that these pieces are perfectly suited to different spaces. The tables can be used as single pieces to decorate a space or as a two-tier set. ‘We have been long on the lookout for suitable furniture shapes that work well in interiors of various styles, from classic to eclectic and original. We could not find our dream solutions, so we decided to design them ourselves. This is how the collection was created, which we hope to expand with new pieces,’ the designers conclude.

An award-winning refurbishment of a legendary hotel in Gran Canaria

The ‘Premio Nacional Macael’ (Spanish Macael National Prize) has been awarded this year by the Fundación Marca Macael (Marca Macael Foundation) to the recently refurbished Lopesan Costa Meloneras Hotel, in recognition of the architectural and aesthetic value of the comprehensive refurbishment carried out in this iconic four-star Resort & Spa located in Las Palmas. In this refurbishment project, undertaken by Juan Francisco García and the Lopesan Hotel Group’s own design department, more than 7,000 square metres of marble, granite and ultra-compact Dekton surface have been fitted.

The project stands out for its large scale and its integration into the landscape and the context in which it is located, one of the most exclusive tourist areas on the island of Gran Canaria. Surrounded by the Maspalomas Dunes Nature Reserve and next to its emblematic Boulevard, the Lopesan Costa Meloneras Hotel is updated paying homage to its own history. Opened 20 years ago, with 1,136 rooms, 2,700 beds and more than 70,000 m2 of outdoor areas, it has become one of the largest hotels in Spain.

Multiple colours, textures and applications

The refurbishment has added a contemporary and innovative style to many areas of the hotel, from the gardens, swimming pools, restaurants and exteriors to the rooms and common areas. Crema Marfil marble, Negro Marquina and Negro Eclipse have been used to clad the columns, the floors of the reception area and the bathrooms in the rooms, bringing great elegance and sophistication to these areas. Meanwhile, Negro Zimbawe and Negro Tezal granites have been chosen for the floors and steps. And Dekton Zenith, Domoos, Opera, Kelya, Sirius and Orix have been used for worktops, bathroom and bathtub cladding, buffets, table tops, countertops in bathroom and common areas, and stools in the pool area.

The benefits of stone combined with Dekton surface

The strength and hardness of the natural stone used in this project blends with the various applications of Cosentino’s Dekton surface, providing a number of other technical advantages. In particular, Dekton has been used for applications such as worktops or even outdoor stools, taking advantage of its high resistance to stains, scratches and temperature changes. This, together with its easy maintenance and cleaning, makes it the perfect material for the most used areas in a hotel, guaranteeing an ‘as new’ appearance over time.

Natural shapes and light colours in this house in Brazil

Luxury and sophistication suit the tastes of the owners of this house in Florianópolis, Brazil, designed by Ana Paula Ronchi Arquitetura. In this house, natural lines and a range of neutral and light tones create functional and versatile spaces in which customised pieces designed by the architecture studio itself have been added.

Dekton Arga was used for this project, not only for its beauty but also for its technical properties. ‘We chose Cosentino materials for their strength and sophistication, as well as for their perfect integration with the range of colours designed for this project,’ the studio explains.

A durable and practical material

Dekton gives continuity to the design by fitting into the different features and spaces of the house. The Arga colour, inspired by the Taj Mahal quartzite, achieves the luxurious shine of natural stone. This material shows fine light-coloured veins, ranging from light brown to golden. A high-gloss finish with a strong visual impact that is both hard-wearing and practical. As a common theme in the design concept of this house, it is used to clad the kitchen worktops, the fireplace, the barbecue, the Home TV and the bathroom washbasin.

A home with plenty of light

Natural light is the main feature of this 230 m2 family home located on Calle San Juan de La Salle in Madrid. The Villalón Studio team needed to create functional and versatile spaces that could suit all members of the family, regardless of the occasion or time of day. To this end, the abundance of light entering the house, thanks to its position, has been key to optimising the space to the maximum and making the most of each room.

For the dining room, María Villalón and her team opted for light cream and grey tones, both for the upholstery of the sofas (Tapicerías Ilarcuris) and the rugs as well as for the walls, flooring and furniture, while darker colours were used for the wood in some of the chairs and for a small bar designed to make and serve cocktails, one of the owner’s passions. Furthermore, rattan plays an important role, as it is found in the doors of the auxiliary unit situated in one of the sides, as well as in the screens, designed by Pablo Yubero, which act as mobile separators that can adapt the room and the lighting, depending on the desired intimacy or openness.

A large travertine table has been chosen as the centrepiece. A unique piece that undoubtedly draws all the attention and gives this space a great prominence, due to the exclusivity and originality of natural stone. The result is a welcoming, ever-changing and stylish space in which works of art such as those by the Gärna Art Gallery and Beatriz Aiguabella add a touch of colour.

An island that brightens up the kitchen

In the kitchen, maximum use has been made of the space, with an island designed with Dekton Taga, from the Stonika Collection, which is characterised by its blend with nature and its high-shine colours. Taga is a greyish colour with marble-like crystalline veining inspired by the Taj Mahal quartzite, which features all the advantages of Dekton surfaces, such as high resistance to stains, high temperatures, scratches and impacts.

On the island, made by Mármoles Cuesta, is the hob and sink area, followed by a small wooden kitchen diner next to some chairs, where you can eat with the family, have a drink with guests while cooking or use it for any other purpose.

The same natural and minimalist style has been used for the bedroom and bathroom, with the main focus on natural elements such as wood in tables and seats, and organic fabrics in cushions, headrests or curtains. In addition, the natural light that enters through the large windows is, once again, the best ally of the spaces, helping to bring dynamism and spaciousness to every corner of this home.
