Catwalk Villa
Nomo Studio
Menorca, Spain
In the northeast part of the island of Menorca, on top of a hill with views of the sea and also of Monte Toro inland, rises Villa Catwalk, a work of the Barcelona-based Nomo Studio.

Nomo Studio was commissioned to design a summer house for a climate that makes people spend most of their time outdoors. The requirement that the occupants be able to enjoy sea and mountain simultaneously was what gave rise to the idea of the project: a large, 28-meter central platform that penetrates the house and sticks out towards both views. It was called the ‘catwalk.’ On it are the house’s main shared rooms and the two outdoor spaces flanking them, all in a continuous flow thanks to huge glass enclosures that protect the interior from wind or rain when necessary, but can be slid open completely to form an uninterrupted terrace when the weather is good. ‘The Catwalk’ provides dividers between day and night zones, which follow a 3x3-meter grid. The architects were particularly careful in choosing the materials, opting for locally sourced concrete blocks and white plaster.
