The practice of the German architect Anna Heringer has used the International Bamboo Architecture Biennial, held in the Chinese village of Baoxi, as an opportunity to study this material and certain heavier ones, such as walls of stone and traditional masonry. Increased concrete consumption in recent times has pushed up the number of experimental projects airmed at seeking feasible alternatives using organic materials, innovative building techniques, and qualified labor. The principal objective is to come up with a model for building simply but sensibly.

The small constructions harbor two hostels and a guest pavilion. The floor plans show a series of concentric rings around a core of rammed earth where the building services are located. These rings are bound to one another by a bamboo lattice that serves to give rigidity to the complex. In between are sleeping zones: translucent cells attached to the inner core and which, being so light, look like ceramic Celadon jars typical in the place.
