Connecting neighbors around a communal space where they can hone their creativity and find their own space in a natural way.
In an affordable housing development located in Fuyang, the team forming gad+line + studio has developed a communal space that is halfway between closed premises and open-air interstices. Climate-control elements and natural materials – such as the hemp in the roof or the double-curve bricks used for the base – combine to create a complex which is contemporary while strong on local techniques and typologies the users are familiar with, helping them feel part of a traditional community.
