Determinant in the design of this home was the plot's location at the base of Mount Rokko and its being bordered by a road. The architect Kazunori Fujimoto came up with a small geometric composition in constant dialogue with the surroundings.
Two cuboidal volumes define the spaces: the main one is double-height and presents habitable recessed areas; the other is two-floor and pierced through by two walls forming a cross. They are linked together by a spiral staircase.
To achieve spatial purity, the architects carefully considered the arrangement and dimensions of each architectural element, in such a way that relationships between interior and exterior spaces, and also within the family, would be ambiguous.
