Casa Almudena
Jesús Perales
Tarragona, Spain

Almudena and Jordi wanted a house on the ground floor. They have two young children and many hobbies such as music, crafts or cooking. The aim of the house is for the family members to be able to spend as much time together as possible, regardless of which area of the house each one is in.

The volume is worked from the irregular shapes of the plot and in a way that allows you to contemplate the landscape of the Baix Penedès vineyards while reserving a certain amount of privacy.

The articulation of the house is based on different continuous paths with a central axis: a glazed interior patio. This form allows us to create a house with circularity and to unite the different parts of the day to day. For that reason, it doesn't matter if you are preparing dinner while the kids are doing their homework: you always have the feeling of being with your family.

Beyond the paths, each room of the house has been built independently, piece by piece, working on sloping roofs that give a different expression to each space. The roofs are made of concrete and have been maintained with all their history: formwork line and imperfections of the work process.

As for the materiality and its construction, they work with visible materials in search of giving the house a human touch: ceramics, concrete and wood. The construction has followed the traditional method: once the structure was built, the walls and ceilings were covered with wood insulation to ensure that there was no thermal bridge in a natural and breathable way.
