An aesthetic and functional solution
FINEHARD is a leading processor of innovative surface materials made of quartz, ceramic, and high-tech materials for room architecture in the kitchen, bathroom, and living area. The company is part of Fraefel AG, one of the largest manufacturers of bathroom furniture in Switzerland. With innovative production methods, the company also works on kitchen construction with architects, interior designers, and carpentry workshops like BISAG which focus on creating individual solutions.
For the new kitchen for a customer in Wängi in the canton of Thurgau, centrally located between Zurich, St. Gallen, and Lake Constance, BISAG SCHREINEREI was looking for something very special. A combination of European walnut wood with a pronounced grain and uniformly dark surfaces was planned. FINEHARD recommended Dekton by Cosentino for the homogeneity and design options. In order to draw on the colour of the existing natural stone floor, the graphite black Dekton Domooos was selected for the 12 mm thin horizontal shelves.
“The central cooking island should stand out visually. For this purpose, we used Dekton Keranium, which creates an abstract connection to the colour of the wood with its strong technical dark brown,” explains Durak Fazliji, Production Manager at FINEHARD. “The door elements should be designed with the same surface, but without being bulky or complicated. We had to test how thin we can produce the fronts without jeopardizing stability – and how we can secure the fittings in the long term.”
Dekton Keranium from the Cosentino Tech collection is available in 20, 12 and 8 mm thickness – too much to apply the ultra-compact surface to a carrier plate if you want to create the slimmest possible profile. “We were therefore looking for a solution to connect the hinges directly with Dekton,” says Fazliji. “We did not want to just use adhesive. However, in order to set screws, we needed a fastening system that had the shortest possible anchors, and we had to find a way to set precise and resilient bores without the material experiencing too much stress and tearing.”
Freedom to create any kitchen solution
Dekton is extremely stable, resistant to bending, and sturdy. The ultra-compact surface is manufactured in a particle sintering process developed by Cosentino. Up to 20 exclusively natural minerals are compressed under high pressure of approx. 25,000 tonnes and heated up to 1,200°C so that the particles combine to form an extremely durable surface with the highest homogeneity. The material is water-resistant and stain-resistant, fire and heat-resistant, and available in more than 50 designs, also in large formats.
However, the hardness of the material is a challenge during processing. “We tested various drilling tools and their parameters on our machines for weeks,” Fazliji remembers. Finally they got the hang of it. “By including our fitting supplier, we found the right product which we were able to anchor perfectly through high-precision boreholes. We were then able to attach the door hinges, door fittings, and telescoping runners securely and without tension by using pull anchors and screws.”

The unique soul of historical buildings
Sophistication on all levels, that’s what defines chef Wouter van Laarhoven and his partner Malou Hagenaars. In 2019 they realized their dream and opened restaurant/bodega ‘Alma’ in Oisterwijk (The Netherlands). In this they found the perfect location with an unmistakable charm and history. The building called ‘De Lind’ is known in Oisterwijk as ‘De Swaen’ (the Swan) since 1631. Top chef Cas Spijkers used to cook the most beautiful dishes here.
On the top floor of the building a fine dining restaurant was created which can seat 48 people. It includes a balcony with a beautiful view over De Lind, perfect for outdoor dinners in the Summer. In restaurant ‘Alma’ everything comes together and the cuisine brings true meaning to the frase ‘soulfood’. Alma means soul in Spanish, a refferal to the high level experience the couple offers their guests.
Advising from start to finish
The interior design of Alma has a strong Spanish influence. Chef Van Laarhoven fell in love with Dekton by Cosentino, strong slabs in a natural stone look and feel. Architect Jeff van Riel of Zout Ontwerphuis made a design for the restaurant.
Van Laarhoven visited the Cosentino facilities in Spain during the design process. “What struck me most in Spain is the size of the slabs. I got a good picture of the veining in the matieral. It was wonderful to be able to visit the factory and see all the colors in large size. That eventually led to the choice of a different colour than we initially planned.”

Design that stands up to professional demands
The choice for Dekton was made thanks to the elegant yet robuste look and durability of the material – Dekton is resistant to stains, scratches and extreme temperatures. The material has been incorporated in the bar, the tabletops, in cupboards and in the kitchen where the material even is being used as induction hob to cook on. This is a unique application for a professional kitchen. Because Dekton is heat resistant, induction coils can be placed underneath the worktop.
The induction process does not transmit heat to Dekton, only the used pan transmits heat temporally to the surface. Through a special operating system the temperature can be raised. This makes this application not only beautiful, but it also brings practical advantages like a large kitchen countertop without interruptions. The surface is very easy to clean, simply use a damp cloth and the stain and heat are gone.
Now nothing stands in van Laarhoven’s way of cooking the most beautiful dishes, assisted by his wife who is also a cheese master.

When the architect falls in love with a material
In 2017 the Milanese architect, Maurizio Barbotti, was looking for a material that was more than plain ceramic and with high resistance both indoors and outdoors. Barbotti had just started his most personal project: the building from scratch of a private villa in the small town of Legnano, located a few kilometres from Milan.
It was during this research process, while walking around the Salone del Mobile, that he discovered Cosentino. It was certainly love at first sight. Cosentino had just launched the Industrial Collection at the Milan Design Week, and Barbotti found in it the perfect choice for the flooring and cladding of his new house, which he used in different colours, thicknesses and formats.

``I would like to highlight the versatility of the chosen materials, used in harmony with every space. Dekton and Silestone have their own language”.
Maurizio Barbotti
Architect
All Dekton’s possibilities in interior design
Barbotti’s Villa is part of a complex of six small houses. In the early stages of project specification, the architect stressed the importance of choosing materials that could speak for themselves. He found in Dekton a strong and resistant material perfect for open spaces and, at the same time, flexible to adapt to all kinds of designs.
In this way, Dekton was used in Villa Barbotti in different colours and finishes, from the flooring and cladding, to different areas of the house: kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and living room. And last but not least, it’s worth giving a nod to the stunning Silestone colour Eternal Marquina – a luxurious black with white veins – as the highlight of the living room.
This interior design project is a great example of the use of Dekton and Silestone in a residential environment, as well as of the endless possible combinations in terms of thicknesses, cuts, colours, finishes… Cosentino always comes up with an ideal solution for every architect, interior designer or builder’s creative project, no matter how challenging it may seem.

LOFT Series
5 NEIGHBORHOODS. 5 WAYS OF LIVING GLOBALLY.
We invite you on a journey through the architectural and the sensory, a voyage to the heart of urban style, guided by Loft, a series that brings to life the design, character, and essence of five iconic neighborhoods around the world.
Let’s begin our journey in England, among the bustling grey of Camden. We will make the most of our trip through Europe and enjoy colors under the Mediterranean light of Poblenou. We will leave the old continent behind and head for New York, where we will walk through Seaport, a color full of marine efflorescence, and then venture into Manhattan to visit the daring and sophisticated Nolita. Our chromatic and sensory journey will culminate in Detroit, in the ever elegant and unique Corktown.
Silestone’s 5 new colors are inspired by concrete, a material capable of instilling emotions through its textures, finishes, and shades, creating a new relationship between people and objects. A new soulful identity is born, in which materials come to life in their rawest form. Let’s get started.
01/CAMDEN
Rusty tones, steely shades, and the wear and tear of living spaces have inspired Camden. A soft, delicate, homogeneous grey, with a fine grain and a very subtle white veining. Camden is cement grey. It is a versatile, adaptable color, easy to incorporate with any decoration.
02/POBLENOU
Poblenou is a warm, smooth, shade of grey, with very subtle veins on its surface. A matte color reminiscent of Mediterranean sand. The ideal tone to use in a day-to-day family atmosphere.
03/SEAPORT
Seaport is a complex grey full of possibilities. It recreates a dark cement color with a worn charm. Its hazy white shade invites you to explore different atmospheres, offering a unique proposition. It is an eccentric color, with personality, ready to satisfy the most demanding preferences.
04/NOLITA
Nolita is a white color with interesting variations of neutral grey tones. It combines especially well with open spaces, where purity and calm are sought, walking hand in hand with art and avant-garde.
05/CORKTOWN
Its deep grey is ideal to combine with aged materials, such as exposed brick and subtle oxidized colors. Open-grained wood combines perfectly with Corktown to create elegant and mature spaces, and colors such as dark green, and deep grained stone help establish the soft lighting that is characteristic of sophisticated spaces.

Interior Cladding, Design and Quality
The first stage of Dekton design in the quality of its image. Its designs are inspired by the most sought-after natural materials or by breaking trends, with the unrivalled properties of Dekton. It is a material that can be appreciated both from a distance, to observe the flow of its structure, or from up close, to distinguish all its details.
Large format for versatile solutions
Dekton’s large format for interior coatings (3200 x 1440) allows a smaller number of joints. A smaller number of joints translates into a more continuous surface; this aspect is essential in interiors since it makes the space seem larger.
The flatness of the product enhances the extended effect of the material, making the surrounding interior an endless plane.

Thickness
Choice of Dekton thicknesses: 8 mm / 12 mm / 20 mm
Private Areas/Pedestrian Use: In general, in private areas exclusively of pedestrian use, we can choose the thickness and design of the form freely and without restrictions.
Public spaces mainly for pedestrians: For public spaces that are mainly pedestrian or with occasional vehicles, the thicknesses of 12 mm and 20 mm are ideal, and may be free in the format. For 8 mm, we recommend the use of square formats, since it improves performance in the event of possible unevenness of the substrate.
Spaces with vehicular traffic: For spaces with vehicle traffic, even taking into account the calculation of loads required, our ideal thickness is 20 mm.

Joints
The placement joints are an essential element for the quality, durability and good performance of the flooring.
It is recommended that you have a joint of 2 mm in interiors and 3 mm for exteriors, and always respect the structural joints, expansion or movement of the building.
The stability of the supports, the environmental conditions, the requirements for use and the properties of the selected grouts and sealing materials will be of great importance for the design of the joint.
Finishings
Dekton is prepared to respond to all the irregular points of a floor.
Skirting:
Dekton can be manufactured in strips to create a skirting board that gives continuity to the surface, respecting the aesthetics of the floor and also providing the same technical characteristics and maintenance to this piece.
Exterior corners:
The corners must be designed taking into account the mechanical stresses to which they will be exposed. In general, it is advisable to round or reinforce the edge.
Adhesives
The choice of adhesive is determined according to the placement support and use, distinguishing between interior and exterior.

Installation
In order for Dekton to perform well, it is necessary for the material to be installed appropriately, following the steps found in our Large Format Facing Manual.
Having a correct support, choosing the necessary adhesive according to the application, respecting the joints and a correct placement and installation of the pieces are the key points for the material to shine indefinitely.
Maintenance
Dekton is an ideal material for flooring due to the low maintenance required. After performing the final cleaning, which is necessary to eliminate waste from the installation and which requires specific products, daily maintenance can easily be carried out whether dry or wet. If you have any questions, please consult the Dekton Cleaning and Maintenance Manual for flooring. For our Grip+ treatment we have developed a specific cleaning and maintenance manual.
Safety
It is necessary to know the necessary safety rules in case of handling and preparation of the product, for which we recommend downloading the fact sheets and the manual.

A unique and sustainable project
Located in the heart of Riga, Origo shopping centre has recently been transformed into a hub of intense economic and social activity.
The building has been extended with six new floors with offices, restaurants and an underground car park. Cosentino ultra compact surface, Dekton, has been used for the flooring and stairs. The key reasons for choosing Dekton have included its BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) high score, and its great resistance to the high pedestrian traffic.
Thanks to Cosentino’s Dekton iD service, it has been possible to create a bespoke “clock” design which has been used on floors, creating an avant-garde space.
Dekton iD, limitless designs
The main visual attraction of the new facilities lies in the clock embedded in the flooring of one of its central squares. Customized pieces fitted together like a puzzle and creating a high-impact visual sensation from Sirius and Danae colours.
Dekton iD service includes personalised advice from Cosentino’s R&D team together with the architectural studio, with the aim of customizing Dekton slabs to create exclusive colours, unique patterns, original textures and finishes.

A flooring that complies with BREEAM certification.
The extension of the shopping centre also had an ambitious goal: to achieve a high BREEAM rating. Dekton has obtained the Environmental Product Declaration. This makes it easy for a project to be in compliance with the high sustainability requirements imposed by the legislation.
Dekton iD service, together with the high performance of its ultra-compact surface, have turned the Origo shopping centre into an exclusive space designed to last.
